Job Description
L3Harris is seeking a Composite Manufacturing Technician to join our state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Facility (AMF) North in Huntsville, AL. This facility specializes in the inert manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly of small-, medium-, and large-case composite rocket motor hardware.
Essential Functions
Composite Manufacturing
Produce parts, components, and final assemblies using composite fabrication, compression molding, metal fabrication, modification, checkout, rework, quality testing, and assembly, utilizing detailed work instructions, schematics, diagrams, and layouts, as well as manufacturing test development or diagnostic equipment.
Prepare components for lay-up, filament winding, cure, and post-cure using cured and uncured rubber materials and adhesives.
Operate various machinery and shop equipment, which may include ovens, autoclaves, manual lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling centers, manual mills, boring mills, presses, furnaces, mixers, grinders, swages, paint booths, fume hoods, composite winders, and overhead cranes.
Fabricate and assemble piece parts into completed subassemblies using appropriate assembly tools.
Perform vacuum bagging and related processes for fabrication and curing of composite parts. Complete structural bonding operations using film adhesives, core materials, and adhesives.
Build complex layups individually and within small groups.
Build, clean, and properly store large tooling.
Insulate soluble and net metal mandrels.
Cast, cure, and machine soluble mandrels.
Process and assemble composite cases.
Facilitate and conduct OJT training for technicians as required.
Work with management and supervision to meet critical deadlines.
Development Work
Produce development hardware to support research and development programs.
Troubleshoot processes and identify or modify out-of-control processes and production escapes, escalating when necessary.
Assist in developing process improvement actions within the facility.
Support
Coordinate with maintenance, supervision, and engineers on equipment setup and calibration.
Participate in preventive maintenance activities.
Clean machines, equipment, and work areas according to Standard Operating Procedures.
Support safety initiatives and adhere to 5S+1 standards.
Qualifications
Requires fully proficient job knowledge and skills. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or a 2-year post-secondary/Associate degree with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
