Job description

Overview

This role is at Spirit AeroSystems, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, at Spirit’s Defense Business Unit (“Spirit Defense”). Spirit Defense is an independent supplier to the defense and space marketplace. Through innovative engineering and rapid prototyping excellence, Spirit Defense provides the capabilities, technologies and support customers need to succeed in their missions.


Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of duties in the composite hand lay-up area, robotic, automation, acoustic, avionic, vibrational and/or optical field is a plus.
  • Constructs, fabricates, assembles, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.
  • Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
  • Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format.
  • Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Associate Technician (Level 2): 2+ years working as a technician or mechanic in a related field
  • Experience with composites and hand lay-up techniques for monolithic and sandwich panels is required
  • Be a self-starter who can work alone, if necessary and meet a deadline
  • Must possess teaming skills, interpersonal social skills, strong ethics, and good work habits
  • Be able to lift, bend and stand for prolonged hours
  • Possess written and verbal skills necessary to be able to effectively work within an integrated product team environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 2- year Associate's Degree from Trade/Technical School
  • Experience with or be willing to learn machine shop type equipment (drills, saws, sanders, etc), ovens and autoclaves, overhead cranes, forklifts, and other equipment
  • Familiarity with aerospace specifications preferred.
  • Experience with FTIR, GDS, GCMS instrumentation is also preferred.
