Minimum qualifications for this position include: - Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; and
- Must be 18 years of age by date of hire with no felony convictions; and
- Possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire; and
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation.
Preferred qualifications:- College courses taken in criminal justice.
- Volunteer or job-related experience in community, group, or organizational service activities.
Available schedules: - 8 hours daily, Monday - Friday; or
- 4-10 (four 10-hour days with three days off each week)

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $29.76 (first step) to $31.25 or $32.81 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, andqualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials, alongside others who perform work of comparable character consistent with the Oregon Equal Pay Act. Six steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.
May be eligible for the following additional pay:- English/Spanish bilingual proficiency 4.5%
- College credits up to 10% for a bachelor's degree

Examples of Job DutiesEssential Functions of the Position:- Provides non-sworn staff support to the Police Department on a wide variety of programs, projects, and services.
- Coordinates with other City departments (e.g., Community Development) on code-related issues.
- Enforces and ensures compliance with a variety of federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations related to nuisance abatement; writes warnings and citations as necessary; schedules follow-up inspections.
- Assists sworn officers in traffic control, crowd control, and traffic collisions as required.
- Assists School Resource Officers with student body and school campus related issues in cooperation with Medford School District staff.
- Prepares police reports and other documentation for dissemination to appropriate departments and/or external agencies.
- Handles basic evidence collection as required.
- Ensures that police reports and other related documentation are submitted in a timely manner.
- Coordinate community resources to assist citizens as needed.
- Must have the ability to effectively interact and diffuse situations involving angry or irate members of the public.
- Attend community stakeholder meetings.
- Utilize evidence-based practices to find creative solutions to address community problems.
- Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Police Chief or designated staff.
Specialized duties for those positions assigned to Community Engagement are:- Assisting in the execution of City sponsored events such as the annual Pear Blossom festival.
- Being a liaison with Neighborhood Watch and other community groups to facilitate relationships between the community and the department.
- Planning, organizing, and executing community service activities and events.
- Managing and assigning work of department volunteers to include daily tasks, schedules, communication, and coordination.

Work Environment & Physical Demands: Work is conducted both in the office and in the field, involving exposure to diverse weather conditions, traffic, and potentially hazardous materials. This may include exposure to loud noise, odors, fumes, dust, poor ventilation, inadequate lighting, and chemicals. This environment includes frequent interaction with the public and potential exposure to disruptive and hostile people.
Work performed involves a wide range of physical activities requiring moderate exertion including climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, sitting, lifting, handling objects, and performing repetitive tasks for extended periods of time. Adequate hearing, visual acuity, and strong verbal communication skills are essential. The role requires regular use of automated office and law enforcement equipment such as computers, printers, copiers, radios, and telephones. The position also involves handling potentially hazardous materials and requires the ability to lift and push up to 75 pounds. Requires the ability to drive and operate a motor vehicle regularly.
