Your Mission: The Communications & Outreach Manager is responsible for managing Rock Creek Foundation and CCRN’s digital platforms, media relations, brand identity, and content strategy. This role leads efforts to increase awareness of our work, deepen community engagement, and amplify the voices and stories of those we serve. As Communications & Outreach Manager, you will oversee and expand our digital footprint, create compelling content across multiple channels, and ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications.

This role also partners closely with internal teams, including the Director of Fundraising and Development, to support fundraising initiatives, donor engagement, and community outreach efforts. The Communications & Outreach Manager plays a key role in positioning Rock Creek Foundation and CCRN as a trusted voice in the field while ensuring that our communications reflect the impact and values of our work. This position is ideal for a creative, detail-oriented storyteller who can balance strategy with execution, leveraging digital tools, media relationships, and content marketing to amplify Rock Creek Foundation’s mission and reach.

What You'll Do:

Digital Strategy & Social Media

  • Develop and execute a data-driven social media and digital engagement strategy that increases brand awareness, strengthens community relationships, and supports organizational goals.
  • Plan, create, and manage engaging content across key platforms including Instagram, LinkedIn, Tiktok and Facebook, ensuring alignment with Rock Creek Foundation and CCRN’s brand voice and visual identity.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages, and foster meaningful engagement with the online community.
  • Track, analyze, and report on digital performance metrics, using insights to refine strategies and improve reach and engagement.
  • Stay current on emerging trends, tools, and best practices to ensure a dynamic and effective digital presence.

Website & Online Presence

  • Maintain and enhance online presence to ensure accurate, accessible, and mission-driven information across digital platforms.
  • Manage and regularly update website content to reflect current programs, initiatives, and organizational priorities.
  • Conduct periodic website audits and coordinate with external consultants on significant updates or redesign efforts.
  • Optimize nonprofit listings and profiles (e.g., Google Business, GuideStar, Charity Navigator) to strengthen credibility and discoverability.
  • Implement SEO best practices to improve search visibility and drive website engagement.
  • Ensure consistent and compelling visual communications across all organizational materials.
  • Uphold organizational brand guidelines across digital and print communications.
  • Design basic graphics, flyers, and digital assets using Canva, collaborating with program teams to develop program-specific materials.
  • Produce multimedia content including videos, infographics, and testimonials to strengthen storytelling and campaign impact.

Media Relations & Public Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets to increase visibility and position the organization as a trusted voice in the field.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with journalists and media organizations relevant to Rock Creek Foundation and CCRN’s work.
  • Draft and distribute press releases, media pitches, and op-eds highlighting program outcomes, organizational milestones, and thought leadership.
  • Coordinate media interviews and serve as the primary liaison with journalists.
  • Gather and develop compelling stories and impact narratives from staff, program participants, and community partners.

Outreach

  • Develop and implement outreach strategies that increase awareness of Rock Creek Foundation and CCRN’s programs and services within the community. ·
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, advocacy groups, and local partners to expand collaboration opportunities.
  • Represent The Rock Creek Foundation and CCRN at community meetings, events, conferences, and partner gatherings.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships, speaking engagements, and community presentations that elevate the organization’s mission.
  • Coordinate outreach efforts that support program recruitment, community engagement, and awareness initiatives.
  • Work with program staff to communicate program updates and success stories to community stakeholders.
  • Support outreach activities related to events, campaigns, and special initiatives.

Email Marketing & Content Strategy

  • Develop targeted email communications that inform, engage, and inspire supporters, donors and stakeholders.
  • Manage the organization’s monthly email newsletter through Neon, developing engaging content and calls to action.
  • Collaborate with program staff and leadership to source timely updates, stories, and announcements.
  • Utilize platforms to collect and curate photos, testimonials, and other storytelling assets.
  • Manage all staff email announcements (program updates, leadership messages, leadership hires, etc.)
  • Send out Town Hall communications (announcements, reminders, recaps etc)
  • Curate and send out CEO/President messages and updates to staff.

Strategic Collaboration & Campaign Support

  • Partners across departments to align communications with fundraising, partnerships, and community engagement efforts.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Fundraising and Development to support donor engagement, campaigns, and advocacy initiatives.
  • Lead promotional efforts for events, campaigns, and community programs through coordinated communication strategies.
  • Provide regular communications and digital engagement reports to the CEO, President and Department leads highlighting key metrics, insights, and opportunities for growth

What We Require:

  • 2–4 years of experience in communications, nonprofit marketing, journalism, or related fields
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills across formats and platforms
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts with a strategic voice
  • Familiarity with digital platforms including Canva, Neon, Meta Business Suite, and Mailchimp or similar tools
  • Ability to independently gather stories from staff and program teams
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally
  • Commitment to disability rights, mental health advocacy, and inclusive communications

Bonus Points

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English preferred)
  • Experience working with MemoryFox or similar story-gathering platforms
  • Basic photo, video, or audio editing skills
  • Understanding of nonprofit development or fundraising communications
  • Desire to understand the Maryland disability and mental health nonprofit landscape
