What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Commission Audio Book Reader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Commission Audio Book Reader, you need strong vocal ability, excellent reading comprehension, and the capacity to interpret and convey different characters and emotions, often supported by acting or voice-over training. Familiarity with audio recording software, home studio equipment, and editing tools like Audacity or Adobe Audition is typically required. Attention to detail, time management, and the ability to take direction make someone stand out in this role. These skills ensure high-quality, engaging audiobook productions that meet client specifications and listener expectations.

What are some common challenges faced by commission audio book readers, and how can they be addressed?

Commission audio book readers often face challenges such as maintaining vocal stamina during long recording sessions, interpreting diverse characters authentically, and meeting tight client deadlines. To address these, it’s important to practice proper vocal care, thoroughly review scripts in advance, and communicate clearly with clients about project timelines and expectations. Building a dedicated recording space and continuously improving your narration skills can also help you deliver high-quality work efficiently.

What are commission audio book readers?

Commission audio book readers are professionals who are hired to narrate and record audiobooks on a project-by-project basis, rather than as full-time employees. They bring stories to life by using their vocal skills to convey the emotions and personalities of characters, as well as the tone of the narrative. Often, they work with authors, publishers, or independent clients who need their books turned into audio format. These readers can work remotely from their own home studios or in professional recording studios, depending on the project's requirements.

Job description

Overview

Schillers AV is a full-service audiovisual systems integrator specializing in the design, installation, and support of collaboration and communication technology for businesses, educational institutions, governments, and houses of worship. As a licensed low-voltage contractor with decades of experience, we deliver tailored AV solutions backed by our in-house team of certified consultants, technicians, engineers, designers, and programmers. We compete on quality solutions at competitive prices, responsive service, and genuine investment in our clients' long-term success.

The Role

We're hiring an AV Sales Consultant to develop new business and serve as the trusted point of contact for the accounts they bring in. This is a relationship-driven role: you'll identify and pursue new opportunities, work with our design and engineering team to conceptualize the right solution, present proposals to decision-makers, and stay engaged through installation and beyond to ensure client success. Your success in this role requires both the discipline to prospect consistently and the consultative instincts to manage long-term client relationships.

What You'll Do

  • Prospect and Qualify - Identify potential clients across our target verticals and initiate outreach through phone, email, in-person visits, and industry events
  • Engage - Meet with prospects to understand their goals, partner with our engineering team to develop appropriate solutions, and present proposals that clearly articulate value
  • Close - Move opportunities through the sales cycle, negotiate terms, and hand off cleanly to our project management and field service teams
  • Maintain - Stay engaged with clients post-sale, identify opportunities to deepen relationships, and become the go-to resource they call first (a real partner)
  • Track & Report - Maintain accurate records of activities, interactions using our CRM system

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated success in AV, IT, or B2B technology sales, ideally with a consultative or solutions-oriented approach; 2+ years experience strongly preferred
  • Comfort engaging technical and non-technical decision-makers — from IT directors to facilities managers to senior leadership
  • Working familiarity with commercial AV technologies (video conferencing, audio systems, displays, control systems) or the aptitude to come up to speed quickly
  • Ability to adapt your approach across verticals including enterprise, K-12 education, higher ed, government, and houses of worship
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms and Microsoft Office
  • Self-motivated, resilient, and genuinely interested in developing and maintaining relationships

What We Offer

  • Strong support infrastructure — You sell; our in-house engineers, designers, programmers, and field technicians deliver. You won't be designing systems on a napkin or babysitting installations
  • Career growth — Ongoing manufacturer training, industry certifications, and a clear path to expand your book of business
  • An established reputation — Decades of completed projects and long-standing client relationships give you credibility from day one
  • Commission-based compensation with guaranteed draw — Uncapped earnings based on performance, with a guaranteed draw during an initial ramp-up period to support you while building your pipeline. Starting draw dependent upon experience, existing book of business, etc.
  • Comprehensive benefits — Employer-sponsored health, dental, vision, and life insurance; 401(k) with company match; paid time off
