Job description

TITLE: Sr. Development Engineer

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Product Development Engineer, is responsible for designing, developing, and improving stretch film products used in packaging and load stabilization applications. This role focuses on polymer film formulation, extrusion process optimization, product testing, and commercialization support. The engineer will work closely with manufacturing, quality, sales, and customers to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and high-performance stretch film solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's/Masters degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, Plastics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience in polyolefin film technology, stretch film manufacturing, or flexible packaging development preferred.
  • Knowledge of cast film extrusion processes.
  • Understanding of polymer science, additives, film structures, and performance testing methodologies.
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Product Development

  • Lead the development of new stretch film products and formulations from concept through commercialization.
  • Design and execute production-scale trials to evaluate new materials, additives, and film structures.
  • Optimize film performance characteristics, including load retention, puncture resistance, tear resistance, stretchability, cling, and downgauging opportunities.
  • Evaluate metallocene, polyethylene, recycled content, and specialty resin technologies for new product applications.
  • Support recycle qualification trials and commercialization.

Technical Evaluation and Testing

  • Develop and implement testing protocols to assess film performance and quality.
  • Analyze trial data and provide recommendations for product improvements.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies against competitive products and emerging technologies.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.

Manufacturing Support

  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure successful scale-up and commercialization of new products.
  • Troubleshoot processing and product performance issues during production trials.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.

Customer and Market Support

  • Participate in customer visits and technical discussions to support business growth.
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints related to product performance.

Innovation and Technology Development

  • Monitor industry trends, competitive products, and emerging technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for product innovation, sustainability, and cost reduction.
  • Support intellectual property development, including patent evaluations and technical documentation where applicable.
