#GrowWithWalters
About Us:
Walters is the premier environmental services provider in the Twin Cities metropolitan area providing waste and recycling collection to the public and private sectors since 1988. We are the largest family owned and operated waste and recycling provider in Minnesota providing over 100,000 services each week with a fleet fueled by both diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG).
At Walters, we are committed to safe, simple, and reliable service-for our customers and for each other. Our One Team culture means we work together, support one another, and take pride in doing the right thing every day.
Position Summary:
The Commercial Waste Dispatch Coordinator serves as the operational backbone of our commercial waste collection division. Acting as the central communication hub between drivers, the Field Operations Supervisor (FOS), customers, and internal departments, this role is responsible for the efficient, accurate, and safe execution of all commercial routes. The ideal candidate takes full ownership of daily operations - proactively solving problems, driving service quality, and ensuring every customer is serviced on time, every time
Key Responsibilities:
Route Management & Scheduling:
  • Plan, assign, and optimize daily commercial routes to maximize efficiency and ensure on-time service delivery.
  • Prepare and distribute daily route schedules, accounting for vacation coverage, workload fluctuations, and real-time adjustments.
  • Maintain the Commercial Block Skip Board daily to ensure accurate route tracking and up-to-date performance records.
  • Take full ownership of route execution, directing drivers as needed to achieve optimal efficiency, safety, and service quality.

Driver Coordination & Communication:
  • Partner closely with drivers and the FOS to monitor, support, and manage all commercial routes throughout the day.
  • Communicate route changes, updates, and instructions to drivers in a clear and timely manner.
  • Process and verify daily driver documentation - including DVIRs, dump tickets, and route sheets - for accuracy and compliance.

Customer Service & Issue Resolution:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for service-related issues, initiating outbound calls to customers as needed to resolve pick-up or container concerns.
  • Field incoming requests from the Customer Experience and Sales departments, ensuring all customer inquiries are addressed promptly and professionally.
  • Manage and confirm completion of requests for pick-ups, container deliveries, and service adjustments.
  • Proactively identify and resolve potential service disruptions before they impact customer satisfaction.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Staff to report vehicle breakdowns and mechanical issues, minimizing downtime and maintaining service continuity.
  • Collaborate with management and the FOS to address service, safety, and operational concerns as they arise.
  • Review, assign, and manage work orders through the dispatch system, ensuring timely completion and accuracy.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in dispatch, logistics, or waste management operations preferred.
  • Proficiency with dispatching or routing software (e.g., Routeware, Trux, or similar platforms).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Self-motivated and dependable, with a strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and customer service excellence.

Work Environment:
This is an office-based role with frequent, daily interaction with drivers, management, and customer-facing teams. The nature of waste collection operations means schedules can shift - candidates should be comfortable with early morning, evening, or occasional weekend hours as operational needs require.
Benefits:
State-of-the-art onboard routing software, industry-leading safety training, driver recognition program, uniforms, and boot allowance.
Competitive wages - Based on Experience
