Job description

Summary/Objective:

The Hot Tap & Line Stop Technician performs specialized field work on live, pressurized piping systems to allow repairs and modifications without interrupting service. This role supports municipal and industrial customers by safely executing hot taps and line stops on a variety of pipeline materials.

The Hot Tap & Line Stop Technician is responsible for promoting the safety, quality, and integrity culture at Colt.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Perform hot tap and line stop procedures on pressurized pipelines

• Work on multiple pipe materials, including ductile iron, cast iron, steel, HDPE, PVC, and PCCP

• Safely set up, operate, and remove hot tap and line stop equipment

• Follow job plans, safety procedures, and customer requirements

• Participate in pre‑job safety meetings and hazard assessments

• Communicate job progress and issues with supervisors and team members

• Inspect and maintain tools and equipment before and after each job

• Complete required job documentation and reports

• Travel to job sites and work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

• High school diploma or GED

• Experience in utility, mechanical, or pipeline field work

• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

• Ability to perform physically demanding work and lift 50+ lbs

• Willingness to travel and work varying schedules

• Strong safety awareness and teamwork skills

• Experience with hot tapping, line stopping, or pressure pipe services

• Previous work with large‑diameter pipelines

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

• Confined Space Entry certification


Work Conditions

• Field‑based work at active construction and utility sites

• Exposure to heavy equipment, pressurized systems, and outdoor conditions

• Travel and overnight stays may be required

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds
  • Must be able to walk and climb throughout industrial areas including steps and ladders
  • Ability to Communicate with customers in high stress environments,
  • Ability to work on elevated or hard to reach surfaces and areas in a variety of locations throughout industrial facilities.
  • Must be able to manage time and schedule on a weekly basis and be able to travel when necessary to offsite locations
  • Ability to maintain focus and multitask effectively on a variety of Job scopes for different locations
  • Excellent communication skills, must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures, evaluate each individual job scope, and mitigate all safety hazards with proper safety precautions and personal protective equipment.
