About The Colt Group:

The Colt Group (Colt) is a national provider of on-line industrial leak repair solutions, offering design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation to clients operating highly utilized, mission-critical industrial process plants. The Colt Group was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in La Porte, TX.


Summary/Objective:

The Welder will report directly to the Shop Foreman and will be required to read Engineering Fabrication Drawings and Weld Procedures, fit, weld, and grind. Other duties will be assigned by Supervision as/when needed.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:   

  • Reviews the assigned job to be welded
  • Reviews the weld procedure called out and sets up the welding machine accordingly
  • Weldsthe outside of the job and grindit intotwounique halves.
  • Weld the inside of the unit, both halves, and clean the job cosmetically
  • Gets the Supervisor or his designee to do aweldinspection before the job leaves the welding booth.
  • Keeps the booth clean and free from clutter each day
  • Is responsible forhis/her personal Safety as well as helping keep all others SAFE
  • May be exposed to excessive noise, weldinggasesand fumes.Theweldermustwear the proper PPE at all timeswhile in the workplace.
  • Work overtime as requested along with performingother duties as assignedby a supervisor.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Experience with SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, Carbon Arc Back gouging, oxy/acetylene torch cutting 
  • Ability to read structural blueprints
  • Read and interpret the Weld Procedures and processes according to AWS and ASME section VIII.
  • Ability to understand and apply safety procedures
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipmentrequired
  • Ability to manipulate tools and assembly components involving fine and gross motor skills sufficient todemonstratewelding job tasks
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, twist, pull, push, grip, and climb
