Job description

Job Responsibilities If your goal is to build a career that makes a difference and you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of South Carolina's youth, consider joining the dedicated people of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ). MISSION: It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation. JOB PURPOSE: Under general supervision plans, organizes and supervises administrative activities in an assigned County office.

Provides coordination and support for basic case management activities. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Presents a professional demeanor when working with the public. Prepares correspondence and reports as needed.

Answers phones and routes calls appropriately. Provides database entry for all incoming materials to include reports from law enforcement, victims, and others. Implements and maintains procedures for recording and filing administrative forms, reports, documents, and other materials.

Supports the practice of electronic files. Responsible for supplies and office inventories and is familiar with office equipment use. Participates in job-related training and workshops for professional development.

Conducts other duties as assigned, required, or requested. Minimum and Additional Requirements STATE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma. Related clerical experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to communicate effectively with the public in handling inquiries and communicating information. Ability to develop knowledge of Community-Based services and as needed share these service provider contacts to benefit juveniles, their families and victims. Knowledge of word processing, current office management practices and the ability to learn how to use the Juvenile Justice Management System (JJMS).

Knowledge of grammatical rules, language usage and report formatting; the ability to organize and support office activities. Knowledge of the care and operations of standard office equipment and machines. Must be able to work with non-incarcerated and incarcerated youth and their families.

Some overnight travel for training as needed. Must be able to drive and travel throughout the state as needed. This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice and the employee may have direct and direct contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

Training applicable to these duties will be provided. Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: A high school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience.
