Job description

College Aide

The New York City Department of Investigation ("DOI") is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country; its mission is to combat municipal corruption. DOI serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, City agencies, and City employees, vendors with City contracts, individuals and entities that receive City funds. DOI is seeking to hire four (4) College Aides to serve in an array of roles in Investigations and Operations. College Aides can be assigned to work on sensitive and confidential investigations pertaining to waste, fraud, and corruption within city agencies, conduct investigations related to city employees, city vendors, and recipients of city funds in addition to examining and analyzing financial records and documents, analyze complex data and information technology. The ideal Investigative College Aide will:

  • assist in developing investigative plans and strategies; identify, obtain, and analyze relevant evidence and records; and conduct interviews.
  • prepare investigative files, to include proper handling, filing, of current and closed investigations.
  • work with other investigative, law enforcement, and prosecutorial agencies.
  • work on multi-disciplinary teams with other DOI investigators, auditors, and city agency staff.

Operations College Aide can select between Finance/Budget, Internal Audit and Information Technology. The ideal Finance/Budget, Internal Audit College Aide will:

  • analyze financial information such as revenue and expense projections and reconcile financial statements.
  • prepare financial reports, such as balance sheets, invoices, and other documents.
  • participate in Internal Audit and Risk activities, such as risk assessments, internal audit projects and aggregate, analyze and visualize risk data.
  • research laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures, and external regulatory documents to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations, specifically pertaining to federal forfeiture funds.

The ideal Information Technology College Aide will:

  • assist in planning, execution, and completion of IT projects and collaborate with project teams to ensure project goals are achieved.
  • work with senior IT staff in Cyber Security to implement system upgrades and patches to ensure network security and optimal performance.
  • collaborate with the development team on coding, testing, and debugging software applications.
  • assist end-users by troubleshooting hardware and software issues and respond to and resolve help desk tickets in a timely manner.
  • install, configure, and maintain computer systems and applications.
  • assist with inventory and analyze inventory data

If selected, the college aide will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation.
