Description

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Medical Billing/Coding Specialist to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY: Performs all duties related to the collection of accounts receivable. Establishes payment arrangements with patients in order to collect on accounts and is also responsible for maintaining patient accounts from the time they are billed until payment is received. Notes every account worked. Refunds overpayments according to refund policy. Admits, charges, codes the diagnosis codes, and bills each patient account. Posts payments to accounts that are received in the mail or through the lock box as needed. Files all insurance according to State and Federal guidelines.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure that records are coded.
  2. Reviews charts thoroughly to ascertain all diagnoses/procedures.
  3. Contacts responsible physician in professional manner if diagnosis is not available on chart.
  4. Coder's diagnoses and procedure on clinical summary agree with physician's preference 100% of the time.
  5. Assists with coding and error resolution.
  6. Refers chart to director, if there is a question regarding the diagnosis code.
  7. Utilizes computerized coding/abstracting equipment.
  8. Codes all diagnoses/procedures in accordance to ICD-10-CM coding principles and the Coding Manual.
  9. Logs diagnoses, procedures and other abstracting data on worksheet to input in the computer.
  10. Ensures data quality and optimum reimbursement allowable under the federal and state payment system.
  11. Acts as a resource person to hospital staff for coding and may provide education regarding coding changes/issues
  12. Must be familiar with all charting and coding requirements.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Knowledge of diagnoses/procedures in accordance with ICD-10 CM coding principles for acute care facilities. Must be CPC certified or obtained within 1 year.

Experience: One year or more related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Equipment/Technology: Ability to use abstracting and coding software, computer, fax machine.

Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance Instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
