Job description

General Description This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Department Director, or designee. The position performs technical work investigating violations of the County Code of Ordinances. Essential Job Functions Patrols the County in vehicles or on foot and looks for violations to the Code of Ordinances.

Responds to a wide variety of calls and complaints involving violation of the Code of Ordinances. Resolves violations through voluntary compliance or when not possible, sets in motion the process for appearance before the Special Magistrate for further action or other legal enforcement procedures. Issues citations and/or notices to appear.

Conducts research to determine necessary facts. Answers the phone and provides information to the public. Provides testimony in code violation matters.

Keeps records and makes reports of activities and cases filed or forwarded for filing. Presents cases to the Special Magistrate. Presents request to the Board of County Commissioners related to fine reductions, abatements, and foreclosures.

Performs housing inspections and condemns unsafe or dilapidated residential structures when necessary and under the direction of the Building Official. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from a computer. Write letters, track cases, and maintain case files.

May be required to assist with emergency support functions (ESF) in the EOC during emergencies or other related emergency duties. (These essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Employees will be required to perform other job related marginal duties as required.) Minimum Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of general construction practices

Ability to gain knowledge of the Department's rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to gain knowledge of the geography of the County, proximate incorporated areas, and County road network. Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.

Ability to enforce ordinances with firmness, tact and impartiality, and to deal courteously with the general public. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer terminal.

Ability to learn and use various job-related software and equipment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years experience in dealing with the public in code enforcement, construction/building inspection, or other related fields.

(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience may be substituted for the above minimum qualifications.) LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS Ability to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License. Ability to possess and maintain a Florida Association of Codes Enforcement Level I, II, or III Certification for Codes Enforcement Officers within 12 months of hire date. Level III also has a requirement to attain Level IV FACE Certification

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS Light lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds). Acceptable vision (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).

Walking, standing, bending, stooping, climbing. Writing. Sitting at a desk and viewing a display screen for extended periods of time.

Driving. Ability to work under stress with time constraints. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Works inside in an office environment.

Works outside in varying weather conditions with slippery and uneven surfaces, heights (up to 10 feet). (Reasonable accommodation will be made for otherwise qualified individuals with a disability or disabilities.).
