Job Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coder to accurately assign codes and ensure compliance with national coding standards and regulatory guidance. The primary responsibility is to accurately sequence diagnoses and procedures for inpatient settings, while maintaining coding integrity and supporting organizational billing processes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Follow national coding standards and regulatory guidance, including ICD-9, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and CMS compliance requirements.
  • Apply UHDDS criteria to sequence principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures and ensure appropriate DRG assignment.
  • Assign accurate Present on Admission (POA) indicators for all inpatient diagnoses.
  • Identify and document hospital-acquired conditions (HACs) and support quality team reporting.
  • Review patient records for accuracy to maintain coding integrity.
  • Develop and submit compliant provider queries when documentation is unclear.
  • Extract key clinical information and input data into coding systems.
  • Monitor and resolve pre-bill edits and correct coding discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with HIM and CDI staff to support accurate and thorough documentation.
  • Utilize coding platforms to ensure timely code assignment and billing.
  • Participate in professional development to maintain coding knowledge.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years of experience with ICD-10-CM/PCS and MS-DRG/APR-DRG methodologies.
  • Completion of an accredited AHIMA training program is preferred.
  • Relevant certification preferred, such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or similar credentials.
  • Proven experience coding in an acute care setting.

Experience
  • Minimum of five years of hands-on experience utilizing ICD-10-CM/PCS classification systems.
  • Experience coding within an acute care setting, including Level 1 trauma and teaching facilities, and transplant cases.

Skills
  • Technical proficiency with ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG/APR-DRG methodologies.
  • Soft skills such as effective communication and teamwork.

Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to complete and pass a coding skills assessment as part of the hiring process.

Schedule/Shift: Flexible- 7AM-7PM EST
Location: Remote
Pay: 60,000
