Job description

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the unit manager or nurse on duty, as defined by the Nevada State Board of Nursing, this position is responsible to provide or assist in activities of daily living, as well as emotional support to Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients. Direct supervision means direction given by the manager or nurse on duty who is periodically available as the site where care is provided to a patient or available for immediate assistance.

Nature and Scope

This position provides personal hygiene, mobility, safety, and comfort to Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients as direct by the professional nurse. The incumbent must be knowledgeable of the uses of equipment specific to the area of employment. This position is responsible to annually demonstrate proficiency in body mechanics, fire safety, infection control, patient safety, CPR, and safe handling of hazardous materials.

Decisions referred to the manager or RN on duty include information to and orders from the physician, administration of medication and IV’s, formulation of the patient care plan, the performance of nursing procedures and resolution of any unusual circumstances not included in current policies and procedures or standards of care.

Is challenged to maintain accuracy; communicate effectively with diverse types of people; function effectively under stress; and the ability to identify and maintain priorities while responding simultaneously to requests from different people. This position is also challenged to always remain courteous and tactful.

The incumbent assists in procedures to facilitate the proper documentation of the patient care from pre-admission to discharge. The incumbent must be familiar with standard operating procedures in ancillary departments to schedule diagnostic tests and treatment without conflict. This position is responsible for the maintenance of unit supplies and interdepartmental communication. Incumbent responsible for other duties as assigned.

This position does provide patient care.

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Experience:

Six months CNA experience preferred.

Valid CA or NV Driver's license and ability to pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria. Current auto insurance.

Certification(s):

AHA BLS certification. Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada CNA certification.

Computer / Typing:

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
