Emergency Room Registered Nurse

Akicita Federal is seeking highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Room Registered Nurses (ER RNs) to provide professional nursing services at the Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC) in Polacca, AZ. This role supports the Emergency Department and ensures continuity of patient care in a remote healthcare setting. Nurses will play a vital role in stabilizing patients, administering treatment, and collaborating with physicians and healthcare staff in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and implement nursing interventions.
  • Carry out physician orders, including administering medications, blood products, oxygen, and treatments.
  • Operate and manage medical equipment such as EKG machines, ventilators, and therapeutic devices.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, neurological status, and response to treatments.
  • Provide direct patient care, including assisting with daily living activities and ambulation.
  • Recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies, adverse drug reactions, and other critical conditions.
  • Collect and process patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, etc.).
  • Coordinate care with physicians, ancillary staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Supervise and direct support staff in patient care delivery.
  • Maintain compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and IHS standards, ensuring accurate and timely charting in electronic health records.
  • Uphold cultural sensitivity and provide care that respects the traditions and values of Native American patients.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate, Bachelor's, or higher).
  • Minimum of 2 years RN experience, with at least 2 years in an Emergency Department.
  • Active, unrestricted RN license (any U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. Territory).
  • Certifications (Required): BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
  • Preferred Certification: TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course).
  • Must pass IHS security clearance process, including fingerprinting and OIG exclusion list screening.

Working Conditions:
