Position Overview

The Closing Manager leads the end-to-end loan closing process for commercial, construction, and real estate loans. This role ensure smooth, timely, and compliant closings by managing a team of closers, maintaining strong cross-departmental collaboration, and upholding regulatory and documentation standards. The Closing Manager serves as the key liaison between lending, credit, legal, and operations to deliver accurate and efficient loan closings while ensuring an excellent client experience.

Job Description

Closing Process Oversight:

  • Facilitate the closing process for a portfolio of complex commercial, construction, and real estate loan products.
  • Organize and lead regular closing checklist calls, establish schedules, and monitor deliverables.
  • Review due diligence items, legal documentation, and ensure loan documents accurately reflect approved terms.
  • Ensure executed loan documents are delivered, scanned, imaged, and submitted to booking timely.

Team Support & Development

  • Supervise and develop closing staff, foster collaboration and teamwork to manage complex transactions.
  • Provide training, feedback, and guidance to ensure team members perform to high standards.

Compliance & Quality Control:

  • Verify that all documentation meets regulatory, internal, and investor standards.
  • Maintain quality control to ensure accuracy and compliance in loan closing documentation.
  • Prepare files for internal and external audits and examinations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with internal departments (leading, credit, legal, operations, and servicing) and external vendors (title, escrow, insurance) to resolve issues.
  • Serve as primary contact for closing inquiries from lenders, regulators, and senior management.

Risk Mitigation & Issue Resolution:

  • Identify potential risks in the closing process and proactively resolve issues.
  • Monitor market, regulatory, and operational risks and escalate when necessary.

Client Relations & Satisfaction:

  • Maintain strong client relationships by ensuring clear, professional, and timely communication.
  • Provide excellent service throughout the closing process to support long-term business relationships.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage, hire, and train employees in the closing department.
  • Plan, assign, and direct work of closers.
  • Conduct performance reviews, address complaints, and resolve problems.
  • Contribute to special projects and process improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (preferred).
  • 7+ years of financial institution experience with focus on loan due diligence and documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate and commercial loan documentation (underwriting, loan covenants, title, insurance, and regulatory requirements).
  • Advanced time management and organizational skills; ability to prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills with ability to communicate findings to executive management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Officer (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with LaserPro, Encompass, or similar loan documentation system preferred.
