What is the difference between Clinical Preceptor vs Clinical Instructor?
| Aspect | Clinical Preceptor | Clinical Instructor |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Varies by profession; often requires relevant clinical experience and licensure | Typically holds advanced degrees or certifications in education or healthcare |
| Work Environment | Hospitals, clinics, community settings, mentoring students during clinical practice | Educational institutions, overseeing student clinical rotations and coursework |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Hospitals, healthcare facilities, clinics | Universities, colleges, nursing schools |
| Primary Role | Supervises and mentors students during hands-on clinical practice | Teaches, evaluates, and develops clinical skills in students |
While both roles involve mentoring students in clinical settings, a Clinical Preceptor primarily supervises students during practical experiences in healthcare environments, whereas a Clinical Instructor focuses on teaching and evaluating students within academic programs. The roles often overlap but differ mainly in setting and scope of responsibilities.
