Job description

Multnomah Athletic Club is more than Portland's most legendary hub of sports and socializing. It's like a small city unto itself. Where else can you find four restaurants, three pools, a climbing gym, state-of-the-art studios and fitness suite, a complex of racquet sport courts, massage offerings, a boutique, plus a grand ballroom and variety of events spaces all in one place? To say that every employee of MAC has room to move is an understatement almost as big as MAC's 600,000 square feet of recreational possibilities.
Want a career with a future? A campus worth exploring? A one-of-a-kind community on which you can have a direct impact? MAC is all of those things and more.
The Role
The Multnomah Athletic Club is seeking a Climbing Gym Attendant to join our Outdoor Sports Team. What You'll Do
  • Deliver exceptional member engagement by addressing inquiries, initiating welcoming conversations, and supporting a positive gym experience.
  • Provide instruction and coaching through private lessons, specialty classes, and youth programs, ensuring a safe and structured environment.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness via regular walkthroughs, equipment checks, and adherence to risk management protocols.
  • Manage climbing gear according to departmental standards.
  • Collaborate with staff on best practices and stay informed on industry trends.
  • Participate in meetings, events, and additional tasks as directed by supervisors.

What You'll Bring
  • Proficiency in top rope belaying with an Assisted Braking Device (ABD), or strong willingness to learn.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children.
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience (or equivalent industry experience).
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Commitment to completing SafeSport certification upon hire.
  • Strong multitasking, time management, and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative setting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of experience in a climbing gym; proficiency in belaying with a Grigri.
  • 2+ years of personal climbing experience.
