SUMMARY: Under basic supervision, oversees and leads a variety of recreation programs and events; performs a variety of tasks in support of the assigned area and program
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. This is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed by incumbents of this class; employees may be assigned duties which are not listed below; reasonable accommodations will be made as required. The job description is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Supervises and leads the day-to-day operations of assigned recreation programs and activities; assembles necessary supplies for each activity.
  • May take attendance for assigned group and records names of participants who are not in attendance; calls participants or parents to verify absences as necessary.
  • Oversees, leads, and assists with various activities; observes participants during program; enforces rules and safety procedures; implements disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Participates in facility or venue set-up, clean-up, and sanitation.
  • Supports the relationship between the Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

If assigned to Climbing:
  • Conduct facility orientations, participant safety briefings, and instructions on proper use of climbing equipment.
  • Ensure the safety of climbers through active supervision and monitoring.
  • Enforce and follow climbing gym policies and procedures.
  • Perform safety checks of harnesses, ropes, belay devices, anchors, and other climbing equipment.
  • Administer top rope and lead belay proficiency tests.
  • Conduct belay classes, private lessons, youth programs, special events, recurring programs, and group events.
  • Assist with opening and closing responsibilities while maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the climbing gym area.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow facility Emergency Action Plans (EAP).
  • Administer basic first-aid response and accurately complete incident reports when necessary.
  • Provide excellent customer service and foster a supportive and inclusive climbing environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1-3 years of experience in recreation programs or working with children
  • Previous top rope and lead climbing/belaying experience preferred.

Required Licenses and Certifications:
  • Must possess or have ability to obtain a valid Wyoming/Idaho Driver's License and maintain an acceptable driving record.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain certification.
  • Preferred certification: Climbing Wall Instructor Certification provided by Climbing Wall Association

Required Knowledge of:
  • Recreation site safety rules and regulations.
  • Methods of program planning and implementation.
  • Principles, practices, and methods of conflict resolution and problem solving.

Required Skills in:
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely
  • Assessing, prioritizing, and completing multiple tasks and demands simultaneously.
  • Administering basic first aid.

If assigned to Climbing:
  • Knowledge of indoor climbing safety practices and equipment.
  • Ability to supervise participants and enforce safety policies.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to teach and demonstrate proper climbing and belaying techniques.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
  • Work is performed both in an indoor or protected environment and outdoors. The incumbent may be occasionally exposed to unfavorable conditions while located at County facilities or at other locations during the course of business.
  • Required to work routine nights and weekends as regular schedule.
  • Required to work unsupervised in the presence of children or vulnerable adults.

Pay Range: $23.38 - $26.30 per hour
