ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an energy sector-focused, outgoing and engaged business development and legal marketing professional who thrives in a team environment and is committed to helping others be successful to fill the role of Coordinator of our Energy practices. The primary focus of this role will be to support energy-related marketing and strategic planning initiatives that promote market share expansion and increased revenue of the firm's distinctive and leading energy practices across Global Projects, Corporate, Tax, Litigation, and Intellectual Property. These service areas include, but are not limited to, Oil & Gas (Upstream/Midstream/Downstream), Power & Utilities (including thermal/nuclear and renewable), Data Centers & Digital Infrastructure, Energy & Oilfield Services, LNG, Clean Fuels, Carbon Capture & Sequestration, Critical Minerals and Metals (Mining).
This Coordinator will join our high-functioning Client Development team known for their collegiality and business acumen. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with excellent benefits that will reside in our Houston office.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Primary Responsibilities
  • Support the Client Development Manager with managing the firm's portfolio of energy sub-sectors, including organizing routine cross-practice meetings, organizing meeting agenda/content, and supporting follow-up of action items.
  • Prepare business development and marketing deliverables including pitch materials, RFPs, brochures, thought leadership pieces, invitations, website content and other bespoke marketing materials.
  • Assist with the organization and logistical handling of speaking opportunities and event/conference sponsorships and act as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders, managing with minimum oversight all details through post-event wrap-up.
    • Includes liaising with external vendors (ex: branded products, printers, event coordinators) to execute marketing and event projects efficiently and on budget.
  • Coordinate internal communications related to marketing initiatives to ensure attorneys and staff are informed, engaged, and collaborating. (ex: event announcements, internal presentations, etc.).
  • Prepare survey/award submission responses and compile client references for publications such as Chambers, Legal 500 and Law 360.
  • Track transactional experience to leverage for various marketing and business development purposes.
  • Support CRM data management and list building.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and practice leaders to identify marketing opportunities that reflect the Firm's needs and goals.
  • Maintain, update, and monitor digital marketing channels, including the firm's internal website, event email marketing campaigns, ensuring content is engaging, accurate, and timely.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of marketing collateral libraries (e.g., presentations, bios, practice descriptions, case studies, templates), ensuring content is current, consistently formatted, and consistent with brand standards.
  • Collaborate with competitive intelligence team on the production, analysis and dissemination of detailed client and industry research reports related to initiatives and client meetings.
  • Assist with regular reporting of ongoing transactional practice metrics and aid in budget management.
  • Support other business development initiatives and special projects as directed.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration or a related field;
  • Interest in the energy industry;
  • Three or more years of professional experience;
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing demands;
  • Very strong attention to detail, organizational, and prioritization skills;
  • Strong technical proficiency in MS Office, particularly PowerPoint, Excel and Word;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with lawyers comfortably; possess diplomacy, enthusiasm, perseverance and a sense of humor;
  • Flexibility to work occasional overtime or travel for events/conferences.

Preferred
  • Energy sector experience and/or energy industry relationships;
  • Experience in business development/marketing for a law firm or professional services firm;
  • Competency leveraging artificial intelligence tools (e.g., CoPilot, OpenAI - ChatGPT, Anthropic - Claude, etc.);
  • Experience with CRMs and knowledge of web-based legal and business resources;
  • Experience with DataCloud, Vuture and Foundation.

SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE
Success in this role means becoming a dependable, proactive, and detail-oriented driver of execution for the Energy Client Development team. The strongest performers will bring curiosity about the energy industry, excellent follow-through, sound judgment, and a service-oriented approach that helps lawyers and colleagues move faster, stay organized, and present the firm at its best.
Within 3 months, the Coordinator will be expected to:
  • Build a working understanding of the firm's Energy practices, key lawyers, priority sub-sectors, and recurring Client Development workflows.
  • Become familiar with the team's core tools, templates, collateral, CRM processes, event procedures, and internal communication channels.
  • Reliably execute assigned tasks with strong attention to detail, clear communication, and timely follow-through.
  • Begin supporting attorney-facing initiatives, including meeting preparation, event logistics, pitch materials, list building, and internal updates.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in asking questions, flagging issues early, and keeping projects organized.

Within 6 months, the Coordinator should be able to:
  • Independently manage defined workstreams, such as routine Energy sub-sector meetings, event logistics, collateral updates, award/survey submissions, CRM/list projects, and internal communications.
  • Produce polished first drafts of basic pitches, brochures, lawyer biographies, event materials, website updates, and other marketing content with limited rework.
  • Track action items, deadlines, experience updates, and follow-ups across multiple Energy initiatives with minimal prompting.
  • Develop confidence working directly with lawyers, internal teams, and vendors in a responsive and professional manner.
  • Contribute ideas to improve organization, consistency, efficiency, and quality across recurring Client Development processes.

Within 12 months, the Coordinator should be:
  • A trusted, proactive member of the Energy Client Development team who can anticipate needs and help drive projects forward.
  • Independently facilitating recurring marketing and BD processes with limited oversight, including events, collateral maintenance, CRM/list hygiene, credential tracking, and internal communications.
  • Supporting higher-value pitch, RFP, client targeting, and strategic initiative work with stronger sector fluency and commercial awareness.
  • Helping maintain an organized and reliable foundation of Energy experience, credentials, templates, mailing lists, and market-facing materials.
  • Known by lawyers and colleagues as responsive, detail-oriented, collaborative, and dependable under competing deadlines.
  • Actively identifying ways to improve how the team supports lawyers, promotes the firm's Energy platform, and executes against business development priorities.

HOW YOU'LL WORK
Extent of Contact
  • Extensive contact with lawyers and staff in all locations at all levels.
  • High degree of contact with the Pricing, Financial Services and Knowledge Services teams.
  • Moderate degree of contact with clients.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extensive periods of time.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry event materials and other items up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to function in a standard office environment.

Working Conditions and Environment
  • Work is normally performed in a typical office environment, which includes the ability to visit face-to-face and virtually with firm lawyers, staff and external contacts.
  • Position is full-time and requires a five-day work week and standard hours as outlined in the Firm policy manual.
  • Overtime will be required on occasion, including evenings and weekends, and some limited travel may be required to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • This role may be hybrid and will require a minimum of three days per week (or at least 60%) present in the office, and up to two days per week (40%) may be performed remotely.
