HDR is seeking an action-oriented, client-facing leader to fill our Central Texas Water Business Development Manager role..This position is responsible for leading marketing and business development activities to meet Net Fee Booked (NFB) goals, while positioning our area WBG for year-over-year growth across our four Market Sectors (Drinking Water, Wastewater, Water Resources Management, and Federal Water). This position will work closely with the Area Water Business Group Manager, Marketing Services Manager, Market Sector Leaders, Client Service Managers, Business Class and Technical Leadership, and Business Operations Management to be successful in this role. Duties include: leading the development and implementation of an overall area growth strategy; maintaining and expanding existing client relationships; identifying, establishing, and growing relationships with new target clients; developing market networks; positioning HDR for project opportunities that result in client selection and award; leading project pursuits, including development of winning approaches, preparation of proposals and presentations in collaboration with area marketing staff, quality review, and coaching presentation teams. This role includes collaboration with the South-Central Region Business Development Director and other area Business Development Managers within the region to achieve regional strategic initiatives.

 
In the role of Central Texas Water Business Development Leader, we'll count on you to:
 
  • Partner with program and operations leadership to develop and implement an annual plan, including tactical (i.e., near-term) and strategic (i.e., long-term) initiatives for achieving growth objectives and financial goals.
  • Analyze and qualify potential clients that align with professional and financial value to the firm.
  • Monitor new market trends and participate in the development and implementation of area tactical and strategic planning.
  • Identify and leverage contacts and assist in building relationships with targeted clients.
  • Partner with our business group and market sector leaders, client service managers, senior consultants, area managers, project leadership, and other expertise within the firm to leverage relationships and experience in the pursuit of new opportunities to meet established goals and objectives
  • Participate in industry conferences, seminars, professional associations, and other external water-focused organizations to develop business contacts, promote HDR, and engage potential clients and partners.
  • Maintain client relationships and, in certain cases, support project delivery by serving as Project Principal or client-facing Project Manager for key clients.
  • Identify and develop potential projects and collaborate with national and local resources to develop and implement successful proposals and interviews that result in shortlisting and selection.
  • Collaborate with marketing services staff, including marketing coordinators and proposal managers, to develop qualifications, proposals, interview presentations, specialty brochures, and other marketing information promoting the water program.
  • Mentor marketing staff, client service managers, and pursuit leaders in developing persuasive marketing deliverables and client-centered presentations with strategic messaging
  • Implement company marketing policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications 
 

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering, professional, or related field.
  • Professional engineering registration in Texas is strongly preferred, or similar technical credentials/experience.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience with program development, pursuit management, and client relationship development in the water consulting industry.
  • Proven business development success in the water consulting industry.
  • Existing network of clients and teaming partners in Texas is preferred.
  • Experienced in development and management of diverse teams.
  • Commitment to HDR's core values of quality work and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in HDR's employee-owned culture.
Required Qualifications
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated "self-starter" with a history of completing projects with limited oversight
  • Deep knowledge of the A/E/C industry's standard approach to procurement of professional services
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Demonstrated ability to build a network of clients and industry partners
  • Experience in sales and developing effective win strategies
  • Strong financial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability and desire to travel and engage with others in-person
  • Demonstrated experience in writing compelling content based on information from technical staff
