Classroom Instructional Assistant


The position of a Classroom Instructional Assistant will be availableat East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 school year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled.   
PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:




  1. Provide instruction to students under the direction of the teacher; work with individual students or small groups.
  2. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
  3. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments or work assignments.
  4. Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
  5. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  6. Help teachers keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
  7. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  8. Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
  9. Make teachers aware of special needs or problems of individual students.
  10. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
  11. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  12. Perform duties with a minimum of supervision
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
  14. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Must have one of the following:

  • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or a related area
  • Treasuring Our Paraprofessional Certificate (must be obtained prior to employment; applicant is responsible for all associated costs)

Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively (orally & writing)
Experience:
Some experience working with children  






EQUIPMENT USED:  Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.  
WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:  Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Work prolonged or irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, walking, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); Regular exposure to noise.  Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment or adaptive equipment.  Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) and positioning of student's w/physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment.  Exposure to biological hazards.    
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT:  187 Days                
SALARY: Paraprofessional pay grade 201
