Job description

DESCRIPTION

Classroom Assistants must be prepared to support teachers as they challenge students academically, physically, and artistically and to establish genuine relationships within our community.  Classroom Assistants will help with planning special activities to pique our students’ interests in a variety of ways.

Classroom Assistants are scheduled for 37.5 hours (per week) in the classroom. There are two (2) Classroom Assistant positions available, with one position being a Classroom Assistant for the Science Lab. Both Classroom Assistant positions are 10-month roles, which follows our academic school year from August through June each year.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises and supports the teacher with classroom programming and activities. Sets up and dismantles actives and projects as needed
  • Supervises and facilitates free-choice activities and recess
  • Assists the teacher with developing weekly lesson plans
  • Submits material requests
  • Helps students learn in creative, hands-on, interactive, and age-appropriate ways
  • Incorporates opportunities for students to collaborate, problem-solve, and be creative
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; sit for extended periods; bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height.  Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Must be able to visually inspect work.  Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.

  • Classroom, After School Program, or Summer Camp work experience, or other equivalent professional experience working with children
  • Bachelor’s degree in education preferred, but not required
