POSITION SUMMARY

The Claim Assistant ("CA") plays an important role in ensuring claims are handled in a timely and efficient manner, and policyholders are treated fairly and appropriately. The role of a CA is to assist in the claims process, which can include tasks such as data entry, document management, and customer service. This individual is responsible for providing support to and for claims department team members and managers. The CA may also be responsible for answering customer inquiries, maintaining records and databases, and providing updates on the status of claims.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDING

  • Receiving and processing electronic letters.
  • Reviewing and handling of incoming and outgoing mail by identifying claim number and adjuster, routing and logging mail via internal claims system.
  • Answering phone calls and responding to routine inquiries, including handling retail agent, wholesale broker, policyholder or claimant calls on pending matters and providing updates and assistance as needed.
  • Maintaining the claims system vendors; including vendor payments, obtaining W-9 forms, data entry of claim information within established production and quality standards.
  • Assisting with requesting policies and underwriting files.
  • Communicating with underwriting regarding claim status, as needed.
  • Requesting files from archives (3rd party off site vendor) as needed.
  • Training in the new loss set up process by Claim Associate.
  • Assisting with gathering information and maintaining spreadsheets for special projects.
  • Providing backup and supporting other claim administrative staff and claim associates.
  • Other duties, as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Exhibit analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and ability to learn internal claim system.
  • The ability to multitask, be accurate, and be detail oriented.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, manage work, and work well under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • The ability to work well independently and with other team members.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college/university, with a major or coursework in insurance or related fields.
  • Required: Experience with office setting supporting a team administratively.
  • Preferred: U.S. Casualty insurance industry experience.
  • A plus: Bilingual in English and Spanish.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position is hybrid and requires the ability and the willingness to work in an IFG Companies office at least three (3) days per week if residing within a one-hour commuting distance.
  • Physical demands are considered those of a climate-controlled office environment with minimal physical exertion.
  • Position requires prolonged sitting, extensive utilization of computers and interactions with others in person and via phone.
  • Position requires the ability and the willingness to travel when required to meet business needs.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The salary range for this position is $50,000 to $52,000. Additionally, the position may be eligible to earn incentive compensation.
