Job description

Maintenance Mechanic
Michigan City Paper Box Company is a family-owned business that’s been in operation since 1904.
We’re looking for a reliable, self-motivated, and skilled mechanic to set up, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain our production machinery, and support general facility upkeep.
Location: 100 Boone Drive, Michigan City, IN 46360
Job Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (hourly), Maintenance Department — reports to the Mechanic Supervisor
Shift: 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday (Fridays as needed)
Responsibilities include:
  • Set up, adjust, and run production machines
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment quickly to minimize downtime
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance — lubrication, cleaning, and inspections (daily through yearly)
  • Fabricate or modify machine parts and forms as needed
  • Handle general building and grounds maintenance (basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry)
  • Load and move raw materials; keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
  • Follow all safety, lockout/tagout, and quality procedures

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities required
  • High school diploma or GED; maintenance experience preferred
  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to pass our mechanic aptitude assessment
  • Electrical, plumbing, and OSHA knowledge a plus for higher classes
  • Strong hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; reliable, detail-oriented, and a team player
  • Excellent attendance

Physical requirements
  • Continuous standing, walking, bending, crouching, pushing/pulling, carrying, and stacking on concrete floors
  • Regularly lift and lower up to 50 lbs.; move supplies up to 100 lbs.; frequent climbing
