Job description

Staff Position Description- Prep Cook/Chocolate Production Assistant
We are seeking a Prep Cook to process cacao (tempering, molding, and storing chocolate) while upholding Dark Matter Coffee's quality standards. Responsibilities include inventory management, order fulfillment, food preparation, and standard kitchen prep. Effective time management and self-motivation are essential.
Candidates should have two years of kitchen or pastry experience and strong organizational skills. The role requires the ability to climb stairs/ladders, lift/move up to 60 pounds, and stand for 8-hour shifts. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are a plus.
Employment Details:
This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position (40 hours/week) with a starting pay of $20/hr. We offer comprehensive subsidized medical benefits, including medical, dental, vision, STD/LTD, life insurance, critical illness, accident coverage, transit benefits, and 401k.

Chocolate Production
  • Strong interest in Chocolate production and willingness to learn on the job.
  • Participate in chocolate operations from raw to finished product, including filling/emptying refiners, tempering and molding product, and packaging.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work floor, including product and supply inventory, maintaining pars, and fulfilling outgoing orders.
  • Comply with quality control standards and procedures, including weekly tastings, and data entry in Google Sheets.
Food Prep
  • Preparing ingredients for food service, including but not limited to washing, peeling, and chopping. Preparing sauces, doughs, and other recipes to Adios Amigos standards
  • Cook and/or assemble quick service food to order, and prepare/restock items for grab-n-go case.
  • Properly storing food to maintain quality and freshness, organizing storage areas and kitchen, labeling and stocking all ingredients.
  • Cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash.
Communication and Administrative
  • Take inventory of supplies and ingredients, placing orders with vendors as needed.
  • Effectively implement directives from the supervisor, communicate, and coordinate with coworkers to ensure task completion.
  • Monitor and engage with incoming communication to both individual DMC emails and Adios Amigos BOH emails.
Health amp; Safety
  • Familiarity with safe and sanitary food handling and preparation, certification in food handling and/or ServSafe certification.
  • Follow safety guidelines, including periodic reviews of safety procedures.
  • Adhere to strict FIFO procedures for products, ensuring proper storage conditions.
  • Participate in regular cleaning and sanitization procedures for machinery and production space, including scheduled deep cleaning.
