Chinese law refers to the legal system and body of laws governing the People's Republic of China. It is based primarily on statutes enacted by the National People's Congress and its Standing Committee, with influences from both civil law traditions and socialist legal principles. The system covers areas such as criminal law, civil law, administrative law, and commercial law, among others. Enforcement and interpretation of laws are handled by various courts and government agencies. Understanding Chinese law is essential for doing business, living, or working in China.
