Job description

Description
The Middlebury College Summer Chinese School is pleased to announce an opening for temporary Instructors of Chinese. The position is available during the summer 2022 in-person session scheduled to run from 6/24 to 8/19/2022. Our unique 8-week program combines a cultural immersion environment with rigorous daily classroom instruction. This is an opportunity to join a community of learners, by actively engaging in teaching, dining, residing and recreating with students while reading, writing and speaking exclusively in Chinese. We are looking for faculty members with the following characteristics: demonstrated teaching excellence in Chinese as a foreign language, being native or near native in Chinese and ability to lead co-curricular activities that are integral part of the language curriculum.
This position is for the summer 2022. In addition to the salary, lodging and a complete meal plan will be provided. Application deadline is December 2, 2021, but position will be open until filled.
Qualifications
The successful candidate should possess a Master degree or higher, strong interpersonal skills, and demonstrated success working as a member of an instructional team. A candidate with a creative, dynamic, and easy-going approach will be an excellent fit with the Chinese school.

Candidates should submit: letter of interest, CV, names of two references and their contact information (no letters of recommendation are needed until the applicant has passed the first round of review), and a lesson plan that shows how the applicant would teach Chinese as a foreign language in a course aimed at helping students develop communicative competence, as well as a 20-minute video clip of the candidate's classroom teaching.
