Job description

Tutor Chat AI is looking for a Founding Higher Education Partnerships Lead to help us build university partnerships and pursue campus-wide institutional contracts.

Tutor Chat AI operates an intelligent learning system built for colleges and universities. We help institutions provide course-grounded academic support while giving faculty, academic leaders, and student support teams more control over how AI is used in the learning environment.

This is not an entry-level sales role. We are looking for someone who understands how colleges and universities evaluate, pilot, and purchase academic technology.

The ideal candidate already has experience communicating with higher-education decision-makers, especially Learning Resource Centers, libraries, tutoring centers, academic support teams, VP of Instruction-level leaders, and institutional technology buyers.

Position Details

Title: Founding Higher Education Partnerships Lead

Company: Tutor Chat AI

Location: Remote home base; Houston-area candidates preferred

Travel: Campus visits, education conferences, and in-person institutional meetings expected

Start Date: ASAP

Compensation: equity + commission

About the Role

This role is focused on opening and developing university relationships, conducting institutional sales conversations, and helping move qualified opportunities from first contact to pilot, contract, and campus-wide adoption.

You will work directly with the founder and help shape Tutor Chat AI’s higher education sales process from the ground up. You will also help coordinate two part-time sales interns who support prospect research, outreach preparation, follow-up, and pipeline organization.

This is a relationship-driven role for someone who can build trust with institutional leaders, understand university decision-making, and represent Tutor Chat AI professionally in campus, conference, and executive-level conversations.

What You’ll Do

Develop relationships with colleges and universities

Identify and pursue full-campus institutional opportunities

Connect with Learning Resource Centers, libraries, tutoring centers, academic support teams, and VP of Instruction-level leaders

Represent Tutor Chat AI in campus meetings, education conferences, and institutional sales conversations

Schedule, conduct, or coordinate product presentations and demos

Move qualified prospects from initial interest to pilot, contract, and campus-wide adoption

Serve as the primary relationship contact after the sale

Help coordinate two part-time sales interns supporting outreach, prospect research, and pipeline activity

Track decision-makers, next steps, follow-ups, and contract status

Share customer feedback and market insight with the founder and product team

Help refine sales messaging for higher education audiences

Who This Is For

This role is best suited for someone with existing higher education experience and comfort working in an early-stage company environment.

The strongest fit is someone who can open doors, build trust with institutional leaders, and help Tutor Chat AI move from pilot conversations into long-term university partnerships.

This may be a strong fit for a former or current EdTech sales professional, higher education partnerships professional, LRC/library leader, academic support leader, tutoring center leader, higher education consultant, or someone with existing relationships inside colleges and universities.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience in higher education sales, EdTech sales, account management, institutional partnerships, library/LRC leadership, academic support, or related work

Experience communicating with colleges, universities, libraries, Learning Resource Centers, tutoring centers, academic support teams, or instructional leadership

Ability to secure institutional meetings and move opportunities toward pilot or contract discussions

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Professional presence with university administrators and academic decision makers

Self-directed, organized, and comfortable helping build a sales process from the ground up

Comfortable coordinating junior sales support or interns

Comfortable with commission/equity-based compensation in an early-stage company

Interest in intelligent learning systems, education technology, student success, and the future of learning

Preferred Backgrounds

Higher education sales

EdTech account executive or partnerships experience

Former LRC, library, tutoring center, or academic support leadership

Campus-wide software contract experience

Existing relationships with college or university decision-makers

Experience with institutional pilots, procurement, or vendor evaluation processes

Familiarity with LMS environments, FERPA, accessibility, SOC 2, TX-RAMP, GovRAMP, or institutional procurement

What Success Looks Like

In the first 30 days, you will learn the Tutor Chat AI system, pitch deck, current pilots, buyer personas, institutional sales process, and current pipeline activity.

In the first 60 days, you will begin direct outreach, schedule institutional conversations, attend campus or conference-based meetings where appropriate, and build a qualified university pipeline.

In the first 90 days, you will help create a measurable pipeline of qualified institutional opportunities, move active prospects toward pilots, paid contracts, or campus-wide adoption, and help establish a repeatable sales workflow for yourself and the two part-time sales interns.

Why Join Tutor Chat AI

This is an opportunity to help build the higher-education partnership function at an early-stage intelligent learning system company.

You will work directly with the founder, help shape the sales process, coordinate early sales support, and play a key role in bringing course-grounded AI learning support to colleges and universities.

The right person will have the opportunity to build long-term institutional relationships, help define our go-to-market strategy, and grow with the company.
