Job Description:

The Adjunct – Introductory, General & Advanced Chemistryposition provides quality instruction and maintains a positivelearning environment in the classroom, with major emphasis placedon teaching, supporting, and evaluating students. The Adjunct roleprovides instruction and monitors teaching/learning effectivenessin courses assigned by the Department Chair or other leadershipmembers. The incumbent must exhibit strong organizational skillsand the ability to multitask while engaging large groups of peoplewith complicated material.

Instruction & Student Learning
  • Teaches assigned courses as scheduled and assumes primaryresponsibility for and exercises oversight of the curriculum inconjunction with the Department’s policies, ensuring both the rigorof programs and the quality of instruction.
  • Considers individual differences of students in order to designand support a range of appropriate learning activities.Participates in the identification of students with academic orother needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource.
  • Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature andobjectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly tostudents the expectations concerning the use of suchtechnology.
  • Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance withdepartmental policies. Maintains attendance records, determines andsubmits grades timely, and in accordance with established policiesand procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedbackas well as other relevant information to students throughout thesemester.
  • Distributes and maintains accurate syllabi that incorporatedepartmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribedmeeting schedule.
  • Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students’performance in achieving course goals and objectives.
  • Engages in periodic meetings with the department, LeadInstructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties andprofessional development.
Student Engagement & Advisement
  • Creates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages activeand collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge,student and faculty interaction, and support for learners.
  • Uses technology to assist in communication with students.Encourages a sense of community among students for learning bothinside and outside the classroom.
  • Refers students to appropriate student and academic supportservices available at the College or in the community.
Culture of Respect
  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect andinclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of thecommunity.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited academicinstitution in the disciplines of Chemistry.
  • Experience in the procedures of a teaching/learning laboratorysetting.

  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable abilityto gain access to work site(s).
Compensation Details:

Compensation: $55.88 per contact hour

Contact Hour: Two hours equals one contact hour

Hours: Maximum of 12 contact hours per week
