Job Description

The Surgery Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial and business operations of the perioperative department to ensure efficiency and profitability.

This position will develop, evaluate and maintain creative, progressive, internal documentation and reporting to support the operational and strategic needs of the department.This position has primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective systems support for surgical services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Value Analysis/Contracts:
    • Assists Director of Materials Management and staff with the evaluation of new technologies through the Value Analysis Process and reports outcomes, and function as an active member of the committee.
    • Provides oversight and accountability for activities, costs and responsibilities of third party, contracted, vendor-related, and outsourced service providers.
  • Materials Management:
    • Monitors and manages upcoming case needs to ensure supplies are onsite, available and appropriate.
    • Maintains and conducts related activities to ensure an accurate inventory of property and departmental assets.
  • Financial Analysis/Reporting:
    • Coordination of pricing, contract management and vendor relations to be presented to the Director of Surgical Services.
  • Clinical Informatics:
  • Implements and sustains an accurate charge capture process.
    • Charge Reconciliation for Surgery, Anesthesia and PACU
    • Audits documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
      • Procedures reported by surgeon, circulator
      • Tissue and Implant verification
      • Wound class
      • Incision closure
      • Event times
      • Charting finalized
    • Implement measures to align surgeon preference cards with procedural requirements.
      • Build new procedures in EHR
      • Preference card updating
    • Creates and manages reports and dashboards related to goals and business objectives as set forth by Chief of Surgery, CNO, OR Committee and Director of Surgical Services and provides information to the Director of Surgical Services.
      • OR Throughput (On Time Starts; Room Turnover) Reporting
      • Daily Volume Report (Scheduled cases; Weekly case count
      • Block Utilization Report

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Registered Nursing Degree
  • Comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedure supplies, implants and/or tissues.
  • Expansive knowledge of surgical procedures and documentation.
  • 3-5 years Perioperative/OR experience in a clinical capacity
  • Cerner/SurgiNet Electronic Health Record

Preferred

  • Direct experience with performance improvement, quality management and standards compliance.
