Position Summary:

Design, inspection, installation, repair, expansion, and maintenance of Inside Plant (ISP) systems to include pathways and spaces, entrance facilities, telecommunications rooms, telecommunications rack/cabinet/enclosure installation, wall and floor penetrations, fire stopping, grounding, and bonding, backbone distribution, speaker wire, copper, and fiber optic horizontal distribution. Also, design, inspection, installation, repair, expansion, maintenance, creating circuits, and documentation of all Outside Plant (OSP) telecommunications systems such as pathways and spaces, splicing, termination, testing, and certification.

Years of Experience: 3+ years of experience installing and repairing Communications focused Low Voltage Cabling Systems, to include Category Premise Cabling troubleshooting and repair, outside plant copper telephone cable troubleshooting and repair, and Fiber Optic cable troubleshooting and repair. Must have advanced expertise with the ANSI/TIA standards.

Clearance: Secret Security Clearance.

Certifications Required:

  • Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer Level 2 Copper IN225
  • BICSI installer Level 2 Fiber IN250

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, install, and configure the components for inside plant (e.g., grounding and bonding, equipment racks/cabinets/enclosures, fiber optic distribution panels, equipment, internal cabling, comm. closet management, etc.).
  • Design, install, and configure the components for outside plant (e.g., fiber, manholes, duct, building entries, trenching, digging, construction, external cabling, and documentation).
  • Install and test cable and components IAW applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Install electrical and communications cable, conduits, and circuits IAW the National fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70 National Electric Code (NEC), applicable American Standards Institute (ANSI)/Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) standards and BICSI Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM) and IT Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM).
  • Label each end of every individual cable and every termination in accordance with the floor plans or engineering drawings.
  • Perform acceptance, and quality assurance technical inspection duties and will assist in development of local communications quality control checklists for evaluation and acceptance of newly installed ISP/OSP systems.
  • Process and resolve assigned trouble tickets as assigned within three (3) business days.
  • Respond to emergency ISP/OSP troubleshooting, repair, and assistance within 30 minutes of notification either by phone or in person.
  • Utilize Government provided Information Systems for record keeping and reference like the CIPS Visualization Component (CVC) of the Communications Infrastructure Planning System (CIPS).
  • Use Government provided Global Positioning System (GPS) or radio detection equipment to locate and mark communications cable.
  • Log and track dig permits in Government provided database.
  • Survey subterranean spaces for compliance with established standards and make corrections.
  • Clean spaces, inspect for any damage, and report structural damage.
  • Record and provide documentation for cable routing in underground systems.
  • Provide training, as requested.
