Job Overview
Directly oversees the residential advisors on assigned shift or dormitory. Responsible for residential activities within the dormitories providing for maximum program coordination, student safety/wellbeing, discipline, and preparation of records and reports in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • Evaluates situations and conditions within the dormitories and make decisions or recommendations to maintain a safe, positive, and wholesome environment.
  • Provides staff training and evaluates residential living staff in assigned area. Recommends department and personnel changes.
  • Performs assigned administrative duties required for effective student and staff services.
  • Provide medication assistance/support to students following the Job Corps Symptomatic Management Guidelines for Non-Health Staff, Center Standard Operating Procedures and within the scope of the State of Alaska Medication Administration Training for Unlicensed Personnel
  • Provide one-on-one coaching and accommodated need assistance for cleaning, hygiene, Social skill and independent living skill development for students.
  • Verifies and approves time and attendance of residential advisors in assigned dorm.
  • Works as an effective member of the social development team, ensuring communication with shift Center Duty Officer (CDO) and support of other departments.
  • Performs residential advisor functions as necessary to ensure safety and proper student behavior. Prepares and trains for emergency situations that may arise.
  • Communicates with families of students by mail and phone, as required, to resolve problems and assure the wellbeing of students.
  • Coordinates residential activities including recreation and entertainment on and off Center. Creates and assists in special dorm events.
  • Inspects dormitory facility regularly. Recommends facility maintenance work when needed. Assists in selection and training of all hall leaders and ensure daily cleanup.
  • Determines, recommends, and arranges student visits with counselor.
  • Conducts and participates in Career Preparation activities in accordance with the schedule.
  • Assumes responsibility of CDO during shift as assigned. Serves in the absence of the residential manager, as assigned.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of new and revised policies, procedures, and programs affecting residential living.
  • Provide required documentation and communication, in required format, through written, memo, e-mail, CIS case note, verbal or referral means.
  • Oversees and attends meetings. Serves as advisor to dorm government.
  • Maintains positive and effective relations with students. Provides guidance for students to achieve a positive attitude and proper behavior in the dormitory living situation and to accomplish their goals and objectives.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property. Adhere to standard safety practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain a Center climate which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect in order to provide a safe place for staff and students in which to work and learn.
  • Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and present information to students, management and line staff, corporate and DOL personnel and public groups.

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • One (1) year experience working with youth.
  • Successfully pass background check and drug test required on the contract.
  • Current, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred:
  • Associates Degree in counseling, social work, rehabilitation, or related field.
  • Previous experience with Job Corps program.
  • One (1) year supervisory experience.
  • Two (2) or more years working with youth.

Working Conditions:
This position requires the employee to be able to frequently sit for hours at a time, stand, bend, stoop, walk, climb stairs as part of evacuation and accountability, make beds, to include tucking in blankets, be able to operate cleaning equipment (vacuum, mop, broom, etc.), regularly open and close doors, be able to do laundry start to finish, and talk or hear. Work somewhat close to other people, such as when sharing office space. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Physical Requirements:
