Job description

What Retail & Specialty Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health

Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.

Retail & Specialty Pharmacy is responsible for ensuring the correct and safe dispensing of prescription medications to the general public, in accordance with legal, ethical and professional guidelines; may also consult with and advise patients and physicians regarding prescribed and over-the-counter medications.

Job Summary

Cardinal Health is looking for a highly motivated pharmacy technician to work in a Cardinal Health managed hospital-based outpatient specialty pharmacy. Our technicians play an important role in delivering medication and pharmaceutical care to patients. This includes developing close relationships with patients in communities we serve and assisting the pharmacists in accurately preparing and delivering prescription medication.

Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional working relationships at all times, with the pharmacy personnel, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel.

  • Understand that the requirements of working in a pharmacy are varied and may change as demands on the department change.

  • Be available to the customer/patients at all times.

  • Maintain friendly and helpful attitude at all times when dealing with customers.

  • Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

  • Organizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by profiling prescriptions, preparing labels and calculating quantities.

  • Ensures medication availability by delivering medications to patients and ordering when needed.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

  • Works with pharmacy team to ensure best practices are being followed with regards to 340B.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent, or equivalent work experience, preferred.

  • Tennessee pharmacy technician license required.

  • National pharmacy technician certification (PTCB) preferred.

  • Specialty pharmacy experience preferred.

  • 2+ years with retail pharmacy technician related experience preferred.

  • 340B understanding and experience preferred.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to use technology such as computers, smart phones and tablets.

  • May require vendor credentialing.

  • Maintains appropriate licenses, training and certifications.

  • Works on routine assignments that require some problem resolution.

  • Work typically involves regular review of output by work lead or supervisor.

  • Refers complex unusual problems to supervisor.

Anticipated hourly range: $18.90 per hour - $24.30 per hour.
