Position Title: Senior Capacity Planning Database Administrator

Location: Hill AFB, Utah (On-site requirement)

Clearance: **Active Secret Clearance Required**

Salary: $150,000.00 +

Position Summary

Command Cyber Solutions is seeking a highly skilled full-time Senior Database Administrator to join our IT team at Hill AFB. This role sustains and supports customers' databases on-premises, providing administration, troubleshooting, security compliance, and database capacity planning support. Using tools like SQL Developer, Ansible, and SolarWinds, the ideal candidate has experience in database scalability, security, performance, and resource readiness to support current and future workload demands. The Database Administrator shall develop and maintain a database capacity planning strategy in accordance with ITIL Capacity Management principles to support sustainment, modernization, and onboarding activities. The DBA shall ensure the environment can meet current and future customer demands by assessing database compute, storage, memory, I/O, and related infrastructure capacity, and by producing baseline assessments, quarterly planning reports, and technical investigations as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administer Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL databases on-premises, ensuring availability, security, and scalability.
  • Support customer applications by optimizing database performance and access.
  • Monitor database health, utilization, and growth trends using SolarWinds, SQL Developer, and Jira.
  • Develop and maintain database capacity baselines and capacity planning reports to forecast CPU, memory, storage, and I/O requirements.
  • Perform capacity assessments to identify resource constraints, performance bottlenecks, and future infrastructure needs.
  • Provide Tier 2-3 support for database issues, using SQL Developer and SolarWinds for diagnostics.
  • Automate tasks such as backups, patching, and reporting with Ansible and SQL scripts, ensuring STIG compliance.
  • Apply patches, upgrades, and validate NIST/STIG requirements.
  • Manage database schemas in containerized environments where applicable.
  • Collaborate with developers and security teams to optimize queries, resolve incidents, and support future growth planning.
  • Maintain documentation, including continuity plans, troubleshooting guides, and capacity planning studies.
  • Mentor junior staff on database administration, automation, and capacity monitoring practices.

Education, Certification & Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent experience (Required)

Certifications:

  • CompTIA Security+ (Required)
  • Active Secret clearance. (Required)
  • Oracle Certified Associate (Preferred)

Required Experience:

  • 3-5 years in database administration, with expertise in Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience supporting enterprise databases in secure on-premises environments.
  • Proficiency in SQL Developer, Ansible, Terraform, and SolarWinds.
  • Familiarity with NIST/DoD compliance frameworks.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in database capacity planning, performance monitoring, and resource forecasting.
  • Familiarity with tracking database CPU, memory, storage, and I/O utilization trends.
  • Experience analyzing growth patterns and infrastructure constraints to support future demand.
  • Knowledge of database tuning, backup/recovery, high availability, and automation tools.
  • Experience working in secure enterprise environments with strong documentation and compliance practices.
