General Summary:
Qualcomm Camera System Team is seeking a passionate camera systems engineer with focus in Image Quality Evaluation to join the team in San Diego. The camera team creates embedded imaging solutions for Snapdragon chipsets that power modern mobile devices. Our solutions leverage dedicated hardware, multi-core processors, DSP, and GPU to deliver exceptional pictures, videos, and computer vision capabilities.
Responsibilities for the position include the following:
  • Image Quality (IQ) Evaluation System development for Mobile photo camera, Automotive camera, and IoT Product Camera. The IQ areas include tone/exposure, color and white balance, texture/details, noise, depth and Bokeh, resolution, visual artifacts in photo and video. The IQ Evaluation System development consists of the following activities:
    • Define and generate the dataset and IQ aspects/metrics for given camera imaging features (e.g. HDR, Noise Reduction, Depth/Bokeh)
    • Develop the SW tools for the lab test automation, metric analysis, and report generation
  • Image Quality (IQ) Evaluation for internal camera solutions:
    • Perform the IQ evaluation for the internal camera solutions, including the fundamental Imaging Blocks (e.g. Denoising and Sharpening, Tone Mapping, 3A), and the various advanced Imaging Features (e.g. HDR, Depth and Bokeh, Super Resolution). The solutions to be tested can be traditional imaging algorithms or modern machine-learning based features.
    • Generate the IQ Evaluation report and communicate with the solution/feature development teams with the IQ evaluation results to improve IQ features

The key qualification for this position will include the followings:
  • Good understanding of various camera imaging algorithms (e.g. Denoising and sharpening, 3A, color management, depth and bokeh, multi-frame/multi-exposure processing)
  • Good understanding of Image Quality (IQ) aspects, IQ evaluation methodologies and metrics
    • Knowledge/experience in designing and setting-up the camera IQ lab test, and real-life test scenarios
    • Knowledge/experience in developing objective IQ metrics
  • Knowledge/experience in machine learning algorithm for computer vision or computational photography
  • Knowledge in camera sensor and modules
  • Strong programming skill in MATLAB, Python, and C/C++
  • Strong communication skill in generating IQ reports and communicating with the development team

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelors in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

Work Experiences:
  • 2+ years in Image Processing, Camera HW or SW development for mobile phone camera, Automotive camera, IoT camera, or related work experience.

Skills:
  • Digital Image Processing
  • Machine Learning with PyTorch or Tensorflow
  • Programming in MATLAB, Python, or C/C++

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

Work Experiences:
  • 5+ years in Image Processing, Computer Vision, Camera HW or SW development or related work experience, including
    • Imaging algorithm development for denoising and sharpening, color management, 3A
    • Computational Photography algorithm development
    • Depth estimation algorithm development
    • Machine Learning algorithm development for camera imaging pipe and/or image processing features
    • Machine Learning algorithm development for computer vision
    • Camera IQ Tuning for color, tone mapping, noise, texture/sharpness, exposure control, white balance

Skills:
  • Camera Image Processing and Color Management
  • Machine Learning with PyTorch or Tensorflow for image processing and computer vision

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$99,400.00 - $149,200.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
