Job description

Part-Time Security Guard – Huntington Convention Center

Legends Global, the leader in event and facilities management, has an excellent and immediate opening for a Part-Time Security Officer at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. The Security Officer participates in the day to day functions of promoting and ensuring both security and safety in the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland and the Global Center for Health Innovation. The Security Officer provides direction, safety and security for any event related activity as required.

Pay: $16/HR

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Secures premises, personnel and guests of the facility by patrolling property. Maintains a safe and calm environment through crowd control, monitoring of facility cameras, challenging and removing those who are uninvited or do not have business with the facility. Confidently maneuver through facility to complete duties, security checks, or emergency situations. Communicate, greet, and provide information or directions to all guests in a courteous and helpful manner. Conduct and document routine property walks around the building that will include:

  • Patrol Service Corridors and employee break rooms
  • Patrol Mechanical and electrical rooms to assure doors are locked
  • Patrol Event Halls and Pre-function Areas
  • Control flow of truck and vehicular traffic during move in and move out on loading dock
  • Perform routine patrols inside and outside perimeter rounds
  • Restrict access to non-event personnel or employees
  • Direct people and trucks to relevant event places

Locks and unlocks facility doors during routine patrols and upon request Control access and exit from the facilities loading dock and perform vehicle screening prior to entry or exit. Responds to emergency situations, including but not limited to appropriate use of CPR and/or AED. Complete detailed reports on activity during shift and maintains daily log of activities through computer modules and software programs Operate and monitor computerized fire alarm and surveillance camera systems as required. Operate and control facility command center. Maintain constant radio communication with Command Center. Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience High School Diploma/equivalent required. Minimum 6 months security experience preferred. OPOTA Certification beneficial but not required. CPR, First Aid, AED (obtain and maintain through employment as necessary) Maintain a valid drivers' license or have willingness and ability to obtain for required equipment operation

Skills and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluent in English language. Outstanding interpersonal skills: must display utmost customer service to all clients, guests, and employees. Ability to maintain confidentiality as necessary regarding the Company, events, clients, co-workers and all related matters regarding such parties. Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills: accuracy is essential. Ability to work and function both independently and in a team environment Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to use sound judgment in emergency situations. Ability to perform duties efficiently under emergency situations, and to make firm decisions during emergency Must have excellent critical thinking, problem solving, organizational, and multi-tasking skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and address the most critical and pressing demands first. Successfully perform different tasks at once and comfortably switch gears at a moment's notice. Ability to clearly instruct others on processes and follow-up, as necessary. Demonstrated ability to operate motorized vehicles. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, which could include overtime, evenings/nights, holidays, weekends, or emergency call-in services as dictated by business need or event activity.

Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Surveillance (CCTV) Skills, preferred but not required

Physical Demands and Working Conditions This position requires the duties be completed in both indoor and outdoor environments ranging from both quiet and noisy atmospheres. This position is exposed to outside weather conditions and temperature changes, adverse weather conditions, dust, dirt, cleaning agent odors, heavy crowds of people, and other working conditions expected within a public forum. Position is exposed to moderate to high noise levels and bright and/or flashing lights along with limited exposure to airborne inhalants such as vehicular exhaust, dust and/or cleaning solutions while performing duties.

While performing the duties of this job, the position may also require:

  • Personal mobility around all areas of the facility, climbing stairs or ladders, working from various heights, walking on ice or slippery surfaces, bending, stooping, kneeling occasionally
  • Standing or sitting for sustained amounts of time
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling items of at least 75 pounds and/or strenuous working conditions
  • Manual dexterity, good vision, balance and steadiness of the arm and hand for equipment operation. Vision, hearing and speech frequently used or communications and speaking, judging distances, reading signs, listening to others in a public forum or noisy atmosphere.
