Senior Business Analyst Job Summary:

We’re looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join an independent federal government agency in Washington, DC. This is a long-term contract opportunity that will require you to work onsite five (5) days per week.

Senior Business Analyst Responsibilities:

  • Lead requirements-gathering sessions with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to identify, analyze, prioritize, and document business and system requirements.
  • Translate complex business needs into clear, actionable technical requirements, including user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria, process flows, and functional specifications.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, while supporting Scrum teams throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Analyze existing business processes and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement, automation, efficiency, and enhanced system functionality.
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, technical teams, and business stakeholders to ensure requirements are clearly understood and solutions align with business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project and systems documentation, including requirements documentation, process maps, technical specifications, meeting materials, and project status information.
  • Manage and track requirements, issues, risks, dependencies, and project deliverables using tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, and Microsoft Project.
  • Support both Agile and traditional project management methodologies by coordinating project activities, tracking milestones, and ensuring deliverables remain aligned with established timelines and objectives.
  • Perform data analysis and validation using SQL queries and basic database concepts to support requirements analysis, troubleshooting, and business decision-making.
  • Partner with technical teams to document system architecture, integrations, workflows, and other technical processes, including solutions involving cloud-based technologies.
  • Engage stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle to gather feedback, resolve requirements-related issues, communicate project updates, and facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, Power BI, Power Automate, and other collaboration and productivity tools to support analysis, reporting, documentation, and project execution.
  • Maintain version-controlled project and technical documentation using tools such as Git, SharePoint, or other document management platforms.
  • Identify and analyze project risks, issues, and dependencies, and work collaboratively with project teams to develop effective solutions and mitigation strategies.
  • Support testing and validation activities by reviewing test scenarios, validating system functionality against documented requirements, and assisting with defect resolution and acceptance activities.

Senior Business Analyst Qualifications:

  • Requires strong communication skills and working knowledge of a system development methodology
  • Possess strong project management skills, the ability to gather and document user requirements, lead agile software development meetings, document technical systems, and have a basic understanding of cloud technologies as they apply to the development area
  • Proficient in requirements gathering and documentation techniques (e.g., use cases, user stories, process flows)
  • Experience with business processes
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and experience working in Scrum teams
  • Familiarity with SQL for data querying and basic database concepts
  • Proficient in requirements management tools (e.g., JIRA, Azure DevOps)
  • Proficient in project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business needs into technical requirements
  • Experience with Agile and traditional project management methodologies
  • Proficient in the use of collaboration and communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Familiar with the Microsoft Power Platform family of products (i.e., Power BI, Power Automate)

  • Capable of creating and maintaining project documentation.
