Position Overview
Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is seeking an experienced Project Management Analyst 3 to support strategic planning and execution of large-scale manufacturing and fabrication projects. This role requires a highly skilled project management professional with expertise in project scheduling, risk management, resource planning, and cross-functional coordination within heavy manufacturing, shipbuilding, industrial, or defense environments.
The successful candidate will lead projects through all phases of the project lifecycle while ensuring adherence to schedule, budget, quality, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage all phases of the project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closeout activities.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, milestones, and budgets for complex manufacturing and fabrication projects.
  • Coordinate with engineering, production, quality assurance, operations, and supply chain teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Perform critical path analysis, dependency mapping, and resource loading to support project delivery objectives.
  • Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement corrective actions to minimize schedule and cost impacts.
  • Monitor project performance and provide regular status reports, metrics, forecasts, and executive-level presentations.
  • Facilitate communication among stakeholders, senior leadership, customers, and project teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor and guide junior project managers and team members on project management best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, contractual requirements, and project governance processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8 years of project management experience in heavy manufacturing, fabrication, shipbuilding, industrial operations, aerospace, or defense environments.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale projects with budgets exceeding $10 million.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, scheduling principles, and execution frameworks.
  • Experience developing project schedules, resource plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Excellent analytical, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced manufacturing environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or related field.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification or equivalent.
  • Experience within shipbuilding, maritime, aerospace, defense, or industrial manufacturing industries.
  • DoD contracting experience.
  • Active Confidential or Secret Security Clearance (preferred but not required).
  • Experience managing complex component builds and manufacturing programs.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and project reporting tools.
