Description:

Position Overview:


The Blake bus mechanic is responsible for Blake’s bus maintenance program. This includes vehicle repair, preventative inspections, pre-trip inspection training, parts purchasing, service coordination with vendors and daily entry of maintenance data into the database.

Requirements:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Service school bus fleet with mechanical repair and replacement of parts
  • Purchase school bus parts to adequately supply needed repairs
  • Maintain inventory as needed
  • Coordinate and transport school buses for repair to and from vendor locations
  • Record all maintenance-related repairs and inspections of the bus fleet into Blake’s maintenance system
  • Perform periodic inspections on buses as directed
  • Train and evaluate transportation team members on proper school bus pre-trip inspection procedures and techniques
  • Provide emergency backup bus driving services on an on-call basis
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor of transportation

Experience and Skills:


Required Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of large diesel engine mechanics and repair techniques; experience working with school buses preferred
  • Strong ability to align priorities and produce quality work under pressure
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of Minnesota school bus compliance standards—pre-inspection guidelines preferred
  • Licensed school bus driver—MN Class B (including passenger and school bus endorsements)
    • One to three years, CDL-qualified driving experience (school bus driving experience)

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor and outdoor work is required
  • Must be able to assess situations and obtain parts for installation and/or diagnose issues requiring the bus to be taken to an approved diesel (bus) mechanic

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to safely lift bus equipment and parts and get up and down from under a bus and various areas of the bus interior
