Job description

If so, The Pfister is looking for a Barback/Porter to join our Lobby Lounge team and continue its legacy of elevated hospitality. As a Lobby Lounge Barback/Porter at The Pfister Hotel, you will be responsible for the preparation, stocking, and cleanliness of all bar areas while supporting bartenders and ensuring seamless service for guests.
Built in 1893, The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee has been a hotel icon for nearly 130 years. As one of the best hotels in Milwaukee and the Midwest, we continue to celebrate a grand tradition of gracious service and impeccable style. The Pfister Hotel has received AAA Four Diamond hotel status for 46 consecutive years. The hotel is one of only 11 properties throughout North America to maintain the AAA Four Diamond designation since the inception of the Diamond Rating program in 1976.
What you will be doing:
  • Retrieve and transport beverage and supply orders from the storeroom to the Lobby Lounge.

  • Verify products against requisitions and confirm accuracy with bartenders.

  • Stock and organize beer, wine, spirits, mixers, garnishes, and bar supplies in designated areas.

  • Cut, slice, and prepare garnishes and juices according to projected business levels.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all bar areas, storage spaces, beer lockers, and refrigeration units.

  • Replenish ice for service areas and maintain ice bins.

  • Assist bartenders with stocking and replenishing napkins, straws, stir sticks, and glassware.

  • Collect and box empty liquor bottles for returns and requisition accuracy.

  • Transport and set up portable bars and tap units, ensuring they are operational.

  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of bar equipment and tools.

  • Support lounge staff by assisting with tasks such as polishing glassware, emptying trash, and maintaining guest areas as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the lounge and hotel.

Position Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of beverage service operations preferred.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities.

  • Manual dexterity to safely use knives, scoop ice, and handle glassware, bottles, and kegs.

  • Ability to lift, carry, and transport items up to 50 lbs. regularly, and push/pull up to 200 lbs. using carts or hand trucks.

  • Ability to work in various temperature ranges including refrigerated storage.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

  • No prior experience required; prior beverage service, barback, or porter experience preferred.

  • Ability to obtain any government-required license or certificate. Responsible alcohol service certification preferred.

  • Must adhere to the Local 122 Collective Bargaining Agreement regulations, with the option to obtain union membership after 90 days of employment.
