Job description

Overview

Building Services TechnicianLocation: Stetson School - Barre, MA

Schedule:Monday through Friday, either 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, with participation in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours and weekend emergency coverage as needed.

Compensation:$21.00 - $24.32 per hour

Position Summary:This position assists in monitoring the facility to ensure that the buildings and equipment are functional. In addition, this position conducts daily inspections of building conditions and provides reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.

This position identifies potential hazard situations and provides reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor regarding any concerns identified.

This position assists the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor by contacting vendors and contractors to obtain estimates, monitoring vendors and contractors while work is being performed on-site, and maintaining a log of vendor and contractor contacts.

This position also assists the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor with monitoring work orders and the requisition of tools, equipment, and supplies.

This position may be required to respond to emergency calls after normal business hours and on weekends as needed.

Stetson School is located in Barre, Massachusetts, and provides residential and educational services to youth and young adults. The Facilities Maintenance Assistant plays an important role in maintaining a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

Maintain accurate records with regard to annual inspection of equipment and general preventative maintenance.Maintain inventory of equipment and repair parts lists to ensure proper maintenance and installations are accomplished on time.Maintain all OSHA required material safety data sheets (MSDS).Identifies potential hazard situations and provide a report to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.Conduct all safety equipment checks in all facilities, which includes fire extinguishers, emergency lights, exit lights, and alarm systems.Conform to all safety regulations and practices.Assist Facilities Maintenance Supervisor by contacting vendors/contractors to obtain estimates, on-site monitoring of vendors/contractors, and maintaining a log of vendor/contractor contacts.Record orders for merchandise or service.Prepare and submit purchase orders.Prepare stock inventory.Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies.Copy data and compile records and reports.Inspect completed contractor/vendor work for conformance to expectations.Tabulate and post data in record books.Operate computer terminal to input and retrieve data, i.e. "School Dude" programOperate office machines such as copy and facsimile machines.Greet and assist visitors, i.e. building inspector, DEEC liaison.Be available outside of normal business hours to react to facility maintenance situations.Make recommendations to modify or replace equipment when necessary to support demand or improve efficiency.Maintains pool certification.

Qualifications

High School Diploma (or minimum of Certificate of Achievement from public high school in Massachusetts, documentation of home schooling equivalent to a high school diploma, or GED) and a minimum of three years of qualifying job related experience such as data entry and preferably, trade experience (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, etc.) required.  Experience operating snow removal equipment is required.Requires a current valid driver's license from state of residence.
