Professionals in Building Automation Graphics often encounter challenges such as balancing functional clarity with visual appeal, integrating graphics with diverse automation systems, and keeping up with evolving software platforms. To address these, it's important to maintain open communication with engineering teams to ensure that graphics accurately reflect system functionality, continually update skills with the latest visualization tools, and follow industry best practices for user interface design. Collaborating closely with end-users and facility managers also helps in creating intuitive, user-friendly graphics that enhance building operations.

What are Building Automation Graphics?

Building Automation Graphics are visual representations used in building automation systems (BAS) to display the status, control, and operation of various building systems, such as HVAC, lighting, and security. These graphics provide operators and facility managers with an intuitive, real-time interface to monitor and manage building performance. Well-designed graphics help users quickly identify issues, optimize energy efficiency, and ensure occupant comfort. The graphics often include floor plans, equipment schematics, and interactive controls accessible through computers or mobile devices.

Job description

We're looking for a creative, tech-savvy, and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Building Automation Graphics Technician. This is not your typical graphic design job. You won't be making marketing materials or branding assets-instead, you'll design and maintain the graphical user interface (GUI) that our customers use to monitor and control their building systems.
You'll bring floor plans, HVAC equipment, and complex systems to life in a visual format that's intuitive, clear, and functional. No prior experience in building automation is required-just a willingness to learn and a passion for design with a purpose.

Pay Scale:
$45,000-$70,000, commensurate with experience. Candidates without prior building automation experience should expect to be considered within the lower to mid-range of the salary scale.
Training:
Depending on the candidate hired, the individual selected for this position may be required to complete four weeks of in-person training at our Jacksonville, FL office upon starting. Travel, lodging, and meals & incidentals (ME&I) will be covered by the company.

  • Interface & Graphics Design: Create intuitive user interfaces and real-time system visuals for Building Automation Systems (BAS), including custom dashboards, 2D/3D floorplans, and HVAC equipment models.
  • Customer Customization & Collaboration: Work closely with engineers and clients to understand needs, present design concepts, and deliver tailored, on-brand visuals that align with system functionality.
  • Quality Assurance & Integration: Test, troubleshoot, and refine graphics to ensure seamless integration and performance across systems, maintaining consistency with company and industry standards.
  • Documentation & Updates: Maintain organized records of design assets and revisions, ensuring all work aligns with internal standards and is easily accessible for future updates.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to learn specialized software used to build and maintain building automation graphics.
  • Experience with design or 3D software (such as Blender or similar tools) is helpful but not required; training will be provided.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining consistency and accuracy.
  • Clear and professional communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and project teams.
  • Positive attitude, team mindset, and willingness to learn new technical and visualization tools.
  • Nice to have/Not Required: Mechanical aptitude or familiarity with HVAC equipment and building systems; prior experience with HVAC, controls, facilities maintenance, or mechanical trades is a strong plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, and reach as needed.
  • Ability to walk active job sites, including climbing stairs and ladders and navigating uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to wear required PPE during site visits.
