Job Summary

DeBra-Kuempel is seeking to fill a HVAC Controls Engineer for the EMCOR Services Automated Controls division in our Lexington, KY location. We are looking for energetic Building Automation System (BAS) engineering talent ranging from experienced controls engineers to entry-level candidates with an HVAC background or strong interest in automation to join our software team supporting commercial and industrial projects.

The HVAC Controls Engineer plays a key role within our organization, taking ownership of programming and customer training on building automation projects. Core responsibilities include developing software for direct digital control (DDC) systems for HVAC and other building automation applications, as well as providing technical support and enduser training.

ย This is a full-time, on-site position, and local travel may be required for project support, job-site meetings, and customer training.ย Initial onboarding will include training at our headquarters office in Cincinnati, OH for the first few weeks before transitioning to the Lexington location. Experience with Automated Logic Corp (ALC) products is highly preferred for experienced candidates.Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend project turnover meetings with the sales and project team.
  • Write control programs for direct digital control systems.
  • Write control programs for third party equipment integration.
  • Create system databases for projects.
  • Follow department programming and database standards.
  • Provide programming support to field technicians and specialists.
  • Coordinate PID tuning with field technicians.
  • Coordinate third-party integration with field technicians.
  • Provide programs/database to graphics team.
  • Identify any gaps or ambiguity in the project and submit RFIs as required.
  • Work with design engineers to develop written sequence of operations to run DDC equipment.
  • Mentor new employees and assist in their growth.
  • Train facility owners/operators.
  • Maintain backups of DDC systems.
  • Develop strong relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Engineering Manager / Project Manager with recommendation for resolution.
  • Comply with all Company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in related engineering/technology field required, bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or electrical engineering preferred.
  • In lieu of engineering/technical degree, a combination of verifiable DDC specific training and two or more years of experience will be considered.
  • DDC or PLC design and programmiong experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of commercial electrical, HVAC, and control theory.
  • Familiarity with third party equipment integration over protocols such as BACnet/Modbus.
  • Experience in engineering, design, or maintenance of HVAC systems.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.
  • Familiarity with building architecture and computer networks.
  • Programming experience is required, graphical block programming experience is a plus.
