Job Description
Broadcast Systems Technician
WESH 2 and CW18 are part of Hearst Television and operate from a state-of-the-art facility in Orlando, Florida. Our station supports nine networks, two production control rooms, IP-based audio and video infrastructure, and a wide range of live productions.
In addition to WESH and CW18, our engineering team also supports WMOR-TV in Tampa, providing exposure to multi-station operations and centralized broadcast workflows.
As a flagship station within Hearst, we are frequently among the first to deploy and test new broadcast and IT technologies. Our engineering team supports high-profile live events, including major sports coverage, remote broadcasts, and community initiatives such as the OUC Marathon and Share Your Christmas.
This is a fast-paced, technically advanced environment where you will gain hands-on experience across broadcast systems, IT infrastructure, and live production workflows.
We are seeking a Broadcast Systems Technician (BST) to join our Technology team. This role is responsible for maintaining and supporting both broadcast and IT systems that keep our stations on the air and operating at a high level.

  • Provide technical support to News, Production, Creative Services, Sales, and Administration
  • Support live broadcasts and remote productions, including setup and troubleshooting
  • Install, configure, and maintain networking equipment, servers, and workstations
  • Travel as needed to transmitter sites, remote locations, and live event venues
  • Document systems, workflows, and technical procedures
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and IT team members to support station operations and new technology deployments

Requirements
  • This role participates in a structured, rotating schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends. The rotation is designed to provide balanced coverage while ensuring exposure to all aspects of station operations.
  • Experience with managed network switches and IP-based systems
  • Supporting servers, workstations, and network infrastructure
  • Familiarity with broadcast equipment and production environments
  • Understanding of TCP/IP networking, VPNs, and LAN environments
  • Experience with Windows desktop and server operating systems
  • Cisco, VMware, Microsoft, or similar certifications
  • SBE certification
  • Military or technical training background
  • We also encourage candidates with strong IT, AV, or technical aptitude who are interested in learning broadcast systems to apply.
