Job Title: High School English Teacher Location: Brave Christian High School
Reports To: High School Principal


Position Summary


Brave Christian High School is seeking a thoughtful, skilled High School English Teacher who is passionate about literature, writing, and helping students grow in wisdom and faith. This teacher will guide students in developing strong reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills while integrating a biblical worldview into the study of language and literature.


The right candidate loves working with teenagers, communicates clearly, and models Christian character both inside and outside the classroom.


Key Responsibilities


Instruction & Curriculum

● Teach high school English courses such as Intro to Literature, American Literature, World Literature, Rhetoric & Composition, and/or AP-level courses as assigned.

● Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards and school curriculum.

● Teach literary analysis, grammar, research skills, and academic writing.

● Provide clear expectations and consistent feedback on essays, projects, and presentations.

● Prepare students for standardized testing and college-level writing.


Classroom Environment

● Create a respectful, discussion-rich classroom where students feel safe sharing ideas.

● Encourage critical thinking, careful reading, and thoughtful dialogue.

● Maintain high academic standards while supporting student growth.


Faith Integration

● Integrate biblical truth and Christian perspective into literature discussions when appropriate.

● Encourage students to think deeply about themes such as truth, morality, justice, and redemption.

● Model integrity, humility, and Christ-centered leadership.

● Participate in chapel services, prayer, and other spiritual life activities.


Student Support & Communication

● Build strong relationships with students and invest in their personal development.

● Communicate regularly and clearly with parents regarding academic progress.

● Provide extra support for students who need additional help.


Collaboration & School Involvement

● Work closely with fellow faculty members to strengthen curriculum and instruction.

● Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.

● Contribute to extracurricular programs such as student publications, drama, debate, or clubs as appropriate.


Qualifications


Required

● Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.

● Valid state teaching certification (or ability to obtain certification).

● Personal commitment to the Christian faith and alignment with Brave Christian High School’s mission and statement of faith.

● Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred

● Master’s degree in English or Education.

● Experience teaching high school English.

● Experience in Christian education.

● Experience teaching AP or dual-credit courses.


Skills & Competencies

● Strong knowledge of classic and contemporary literature.

● Ability to teach writing in a structured, practical way.

● Skilled at leading meaningful classroom discussions.

● Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented.

● Able to connect with high school students in a respectful and encouraging way.


Work Schedule

● Full-time, 10-month academic year position.

● Attendance at parent-teacher conferences, school events, and occasional evening activities is required.
