Boat Insurance information

What is boat insurance?

Boat insurance is a specialized type of insurance policy designed to protect you financially in the event of damage, theft, or liability involving your boat or personal watercraft. It typically covers physical damage to your boat, including theft and vandalism, as well as liability for injuries or property damage you may cause to others while operating your boat. Depending on the policy, it may also include coverage for equipment, trailers, and even emergency towing. Boat insurance is often required by marinas or lenders and is highly recommended for all boat owners to safeguard their investment and personal assets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a boat insurance agent, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Boat Insurance Agent, you need a solid understanding of insurance principles, risk assessment, and marine policies, typically supported by an insurance license. Familiarity with insurance quoting software, customer relationship management (CRM) systems, and regulatory compliance tools is crucial. Excellent communication, negotiation skills, and attention to detail help build trust with clients and facilitate accurate policy recommendations. These abilities are vital for ensuring clients receive proper coverage and for maintaining a successful, compliant insurance practice.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in boat insurance, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in boat insurance often encounter challenges such as accurately assessing the risks associated with various types of watercraft and navigating complex regional regulations. Staying updated on changing maritime laws and safety standards is crucial, as is effectively communicating coverage details to clients who may be unfamiliar with marine insurance terminology. Building strong relationships with underwriters and claims adjusters, as well as continually educating oneself on industry trends, can help overcome these challenges and ensure clients receive the best possible service.

What is the difference between Boat Insurance vs Marine Surveyor?

Job description

Forbes Insurance Agency, Inc. is an established Allstate agency located in Reston, Virginia, proudly serving customers since 1999. We help individuals, families, and businesses protect what matters most through Auto, Home, Renters, Umbrella, Life, and Small Business insurance.

Build Your Sales Career With Leads, Support a Team Behind You

We're looking for an experienced, motivated Insurance Sales Representative to join our in-office sales team in Reston, VA.

If you enjoy the energy of working alongside a sales team, having direct access to coaching and support, and staying busy with a steady flow of sales opportunities, this could be an excellent fit.

Unlike many insurance sales positions where producers are expected to generate every opportunity on their own, we invest heavily in generating opportunities for our sales team.

You'll have access to multiple company-provided lead sources, including:

Warm internet leads

Direct mail responses

Warm transferred prospects

Internal referrals

Inbound sales opportunities

Outbound prospecting opportunities

We provide the opportunities, tools, training, and support. You bring the drive to turn those opportunities into customers.

Compensation Benefits

  • Expected First-Year Earnings: $55,000–$75,000 (Base Salary included)
  • Top Performers: $75,000–$90,000+ annually
  • Uncapped commissions
  • Performance bonus opportunities
  • Multiple company-provided lead sources
  • Monday–Friday schedule — no evenings or weekends
  • Health, Dental Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Sick Leave
  • Paid Holidays
  • Ongoing sales coaching and professional development

Why Work In Our Reston Office?

We believe salespeople perform at their best when they have the right environment around them. This is a fully in-office position designed to give our sales representatives immediate access to the team, leadership, coaching, technology, and resources they need to succeed.

You'll benefit from:

Real-time coaching and support when you need it

Working alongside motivated sales professionals

A structured environment that helps you stay focused and productive

Modern technology and equipment

Hands-on training and professional development

Leadership that is accessible and invested in your success

A team atmosphere where wins are recognized and celebrated

This is not a remote or hybrid position. You'll work Monday through Friday from our professional Reston office, with your evenings and weekends free.

What Success Looks Like

This is an active, performance-driven sales position. Successful producers are comfortable spending much of their day talking with prospects, following up on opportunities, quoting households, and asking for the sale.

Our successful sales representatives:

Make 100+ outbound calls per day

Respond quickly to new sales opportunities

Consistently follow up with prospects

Quote multiple households each day

Build relationships and confidently ask for the business

Stay organized, disciplined, and accountable

Maintain a positive, competitive mindset

Embrace coaching and continually work to improve

Who We're Looking For

You'll likely enjoy this position if you:

Are motivated by goals, commissions, and performance

Enjoy talking with people and building relationships

Like having a busy pipeline of sales opportunities

Are comfortable working in a structured, high-activity environment

Want your earning potential to grow with your performance

Appreciate being part of an in-person team rather than working alone

Are coachable, competitive, and persistent

Take ownership of your results

This isn't a position where you'll spend the day waiting for the phone to ring. It's an opportunity for a motivated salesperson who wants leads to work, a team behind them, and the ability to significantly increase their income through performance.

If you're ready to bring your energy, sales ability, and competitive mindset to an established agency that will give you opportunities to succeed, we'd love to meet you.
