Job description

Title: Bindery Shift Lead

Reports to: Bindery Supervisor


Scope of Position:

The Bindery Shift Lead is primarily responsible for operating bindery equipment while supporting assigned shift operations within the Bindery department. This position serves as the shift lead by ensuring workflow is organized and efficient, production goals and quality standards are maintained, and safety procedures and best practices are followed throughout the shift. The lead also supports the team via training and mentoring as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot machine issues and provide technical support as needed during the shift
  • Perform all duties of an operator, such as:
  • Perform line clearance according to standing SOP’s and complete all LC Logs
  • Inspect material prior to installation; report any issues to the Supervisor
  • Read and understand job jacket instructions
  • Saving uncut customer sheets for future QA issues
  • Ensure customer sample is at the machine and that first piece approval matches the sample
  • Obtain supervisor sign-off for first piece approval, orperformand document sign-off as required when a supervisor is unavailable.
  • Perform quantity pulls as specified in department SOP
  • Complete production logs both for Fox and customer if required
  • Ensure machine is set up properly and running to specified rate
  • Identify non-conforming products and place QA inspect tags on load
  • Follow any customer specific requirements for manufacturing, quality, and shipping
  • Communicate any unclear or conflicting information to the department supervisor
  • Input load counts into MHS system and generate correct load tags
  • Ensure all loads contain MHS load tag
  • Support organization and workflow within the department to help maintain production efficiency and quality standards during the shift
  • Ensure machines are running to full capability
  • Perform random QA checks on all machines in the department
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for shift employees.
  • Train and mentor operators and production staff on equipment, safety, and procedures.
  • Provide direction and support to ensure efficient teamwork and communication
  • Perform any other duties as required
