Job description

Paper Machine Supervisor

MUST COME OUT OF PAPER MAKING. This is a must. Not converting, but actual papermaking.

Summary

As a Paper Machine Supervisor, you will be responsible for direct supervision of the paper machine production, quality, immediate maintenance coordination, and safety. This includes overseeing hourly employees on shift, and providing indirect supervision over more employees on off shifts. Your role involves performing safety, quality, process, and mechanical checks, while aligning business operations to exceed customer expectations and meet business, cultural, financial, and operational objectives.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work directly with and supervise a team of operations technicians
  • Direct and support activities and personnel compliance to develop a safe work environment and foster a culture of safe performance
  • Achieve productivity by establishing and communicating clear goals, providing requisite resources to the team, engaging the team, setting appropriate priorities, and monitoring progress
  • Promote employee engagement by providing leadership on the shift. This includes listening and responding to employee issues, taking decisive actions, recognizing excellent performance, and holding employees accountable for performance and personal actions
  • Achieve quality and waste goals by ensuring all direct reports are properly trained on equipment, following proper procedures, performing requisite inspections, and acting upon suggested improvements
  • Administer, communicate, and interpret work procedures and company policies
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (Paper Science, Chemical or Industrial Engineering, Production Management, Business Administration, or related field); or significant, closely related work experience required in lieu of degree.
  • (2-5) years of manufacturing supervisory experience, required.
  • Continuous Improvement โ€“ Lean/Six Sigma knowledge preferred.

  • Strong safety orientation
  • Demonstrated strategic, analytical problem-solving ability (TCC/Trouble Cause Correction)
  • Demonstrated timely, effective decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, adept at motivation and experienced at conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S or other discipline)
  • Demonstrated communication skills, effective at all levels of the organization
  • Proficient computer skills, experienced with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within teams
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across departments and functions

Employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; this may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends, and be punctual while doing so.
